While the politicians from both Cambodia and Thailand exchanged insults, the military leaders and the common people from both sides are talking peace, reports Radio Free Asia.
Military leaders from both sides had made cordial contacts and one Cambodian officer said the agreement had been reached between Cambodian and leader generals not to escalate the military situations. "Yesterday, Gen. Chea Dara and our delegation went to meet with Thai commander of Thai Military Region 2 at the Red House on the Thai side of the borders. They have strengthened good co-operation. They agreed not to reinforce or withdraw troops, not to mobilise troops and not to allow digging of more military trenches on the border frontlines", the anonymous Cambodian officer said.
Many Thai people also want peace. A 41 year-old Thai trader from Poipet named Loeun Phorn said "The Thai and Cambodian people should do business together as neighbours who have joint borders."
Another Thai, 52 year-old Wanchai Keo Sawen said " I want both countries to be brothers like before, not to have problems like now."
Cambodian traders also said the situation at Poipet remain calm, but said Thai traders are more nervous. One Cambodian woman said "The Thai side is a bit more panic, but our side seems calm."
Gen. Hun Hean said the yellow shirted PAD group planned to stage a protest in the area but the Thai provincial authority took action to stop them, he said:"They said they will stage a protest at Long Koeur Market but the governor of Sakeo province took action to stop that from happenning."
