Cambodian military sources based at Preah Vihear have told Reaksmei Kampuchea newspaper that at 1:30 pm on 14th October, the Thai military had secretly sent two armoured personnel carriers to the foot of Phnom Trop mountain, reports everyday.com.
Reaksmei Kampuchea reported that Cambodian military sources said that the Thai armoured personnel carriers (APC) are covered with tree leaves, heavily equipped with modern weapons and was on high alert ready for combat and were accompanied by hundreds of paramilitary troops.
Gen. Chea Dara, Combodian Deputy Commander-in-Chief in charge of Preah Vihear Operations, said Cambodian troops are also on high alert and were ready to use self-defence to destroy those APCs if they crossed into Cambodian territories. The Thai APCs, however, only came within 80 metres from the Cambodian frontlines.
It is not known why the Thais deployed those APCs in the area. But according to Deum Ampil which quoted Gen. Srey Doek, commander of the Preah Vihear area, the Thai military had sent three armoured personnel carriers to protect Gen. Kanok, Thai commander of Military Region Two, during his visit to the area.

Thailand is trying to flex its military muscles against Cambodia again. This is a military provocation that, if reciprocated by Cambodia, could lead to armed clashes along the borders.
This is yet another sign that Thailand does not want to settle the border disputes peacefully because as soon as it heard that Cambodia wanted to bring the issue to Asean and international stage, it started to flex its military muscles immediately.
Cambodia must stand firm and raise the issue at the upcoming Asean forum.
