Mu Sochua, who was fined and ordered to pay compensation to Prime Minister on 4th August for defamation, has called for an end to what she called "a culture of apology" to Prime Minister Hun Sen.

She made this comments during a news conference on the same day she was found guilty of defamation in which the judge hinted that Mu Sochua should make an apology to Mr. Hun Sen to end the case. She said : "The judge said Mr. Kong Sam Onn has been exonerated of any guilt because he had apologised (to Mr. Hun Sen). For me, if we talk about laws, we should be judged according to the laws to find out who is right and who is wrong. It is not about an apology."

Mr. Kong Sam Onn was Mu Sochua's ex-lawyer. He was sued by Mr. Hun Sen he held a joint conference to announce about Mu Sochua's defamation suit against Mr. Hun Sen two months ago. Mr. Hun Sen pardoned him after he had sent a letter of apology and defected Mr. Hun Sen's Cambodian People's Party.

Ms. Mu Sochua said, she as well as her Sam Rainsy Party still maintain the stance that they will not negotiate with the government in an exchange for the reinstatement of her parliamentary immunity.

She added that people should not use apology to end any legal cases, and instead legal cases should be ended with natural justice provided by the court.

She is right. A culture of apology should stop and a culture of laws and justice should take hold. Otherwise Hun Sen will just demand for an apology to any who criticize him.

If someone has done something wrong they should be punished by laws in an independent court, not in a Hun Sen kangaroo court.
