Prime Minister Hun Sen (pictured) said Cambodia is negotiating debt repayments to the United States owed by the Khmer Republic regime of Marshall Lon Nol in the 1970s.
Speaking during a graduation ceremony at the Royal University of Law and Economics on Tuesday, Mr. Hun Sen said Cambodia is negotiating with America to find out what kind of things Marshall Lon Nol purchased from the United States or how much loans he borrowed from America that made Cambodia so heavily indebted to America.
According to Mr. Cheam Yeap, MP from the governing Cambodian People's Party, since 1972 Cambodia owed the United States more than $100 million, the majority owed by the Khmer Republic regime of Marshall Lon Nol in the 1970s.
He added that up until now, including interests, Cambodia owed the United States to the tune of $300 million.

Are we going to ask the American government that they owe us 2 million people because they are the one that caused the deaths of 2 million Khmer during the Khmer Rouge era?
Fuck the USA, they should be be in debt Cambodia for all the pain and suffering it has caused to the Cambodian people.
Well USA, China, Vietnam and Russia and our Cambodian leaders are responsible.
Let's not pointing finger at America for 1.7 millions Cambodian lives perished. If America won the Vietnam War, I guess we won't be blaming America, are we? America do get partial blames for the failure to stop the communist domino effect in Indochina. I don't think Cambodia owe anything to America. It's America that should owe Cambodia in reconstruction. It was American's war.
Cambodia was a neutral state until the Viet Cong decided to infiltrated into Cambodia quietly constructing Ho Chi Minh trails along Laos and Cambodia borders that snaked toward South Vietnam and hiding cache of weapons in the home of VietnamesCambodian citizens.
Sihanouk was well aware of Viet Cong behaviors, actually he allowed it, thanks to his pro-Hanoi policy. With all the supports from Hanoi, China and the Soviet Union, the opportunity is perfect to create Cambodia own communist Frankenstein regime, a monster known as Khmer Rouge(red Khmer, or communist Khmer), psychologically educated by Hanoi, trained to fight and kill by Viet Cong to see another non-communist Khmer as enemy and must be eliminated. The creation of Khmer Rouge only amplified Cambodia from a neutral state to a Vietnam War participant. This caused American to slowly involved in Cambodia affair and the support for general Lon Nol. This betrayed general of Sihanouk was a hero for Cambodian freedom fighters. Hun Sen wasn't a freedom fighter, he was a low ranking Khmer Rouge cadre, that's why he dislike General Lon Nol.
As American slowly loosing ground in south Vienam and withdrew, so does the fighting strenght of Gen. Lon Nol men. In April 17, 1975(so much for New Year celebration). Phnom Penh fell to the Khmer Rouge. The effect caused deaths and destructions upon Cambodia.
It would be impossible for American to win and save Phnom Penh and Saigon and when Hanoi received all the supports from China and the Soviet Unions.
