Thai academics and students from two major universities in Bangkok have appealed to Thai government to stop twisting history of Khmer-Thai borders in order to avoid embarrassment to the Thai nation.

Academics and students from Chulalongkorn and Thammasat universities have also appealed to the Thai government to stop using maps unilaterally drawn by Thailand and start using the Dangrek maps drawn by the Franco-Siamese Mixed Commission between 1904 to 1907 which were internationally recognised.

In 1908, eleven maps were printed by the Franco-Siamese Mixed Commision and have been distributed to technically interested quarters around the world. One hundred and sixty (160) pieces of maps containing 11 maps in each piece have been printed. Fifty (50) pieces were given to the Thai delegation in Paris, the Thai representatives (ambassadors) in the UK, Germany, Russia and the United States. Some of the maps had also been given to the Thai government in Bangkok.

Many analysts said the appeals of the Thai academics and students from the two major universities to the Thai government to stop twisting history and stop using the maps unilaterally drawn by Thailand are appropriate because the Dangrek maps were recognised by the international community and the International Court of Justice in 1962.Justify Full

As you can see, the Thai themselves know that the Preah Vihear temple belongs to the Khmer of the Fransco-Siamese map drawn in 1904-1907-1908 and all parties agree that the land surrounding the temple belongs to the Khmer.

I'm please and applaud the Thai students for being fair, neutral, and understanding in the case of Preah Vihea. I can only assume that the reason why this is still an issure is for a political reason. This is the tactic use by Thailand government to gain support for the new unpopular military government.

I hope these Thai students and academics gained the upper hand in the struggle for righting the wrongs of Thai history teaching. Fake history, especially in regard to Cambodia, has been taught in Thai schools for so long already. It need to be corrected.
