Cambodian and Thai defence officials to meet in Bangkok

Reported in English by Khmerization

A high-powered delegation of defence officials led by Gen. Neang Phat (pictured), Secretary of State of Defence Ministry, will travel to Bangkok from 23rd to 26th July for border talks with Thai defence officials.

Gen. Chhum Socheat, Undersecretary of State and spokesman for Defence Ministry, said the delegation's visit will also to pave the way for Defence Minister Tea Banh's visit to Thailand for talks with Thai Defence Minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan at the end of the year.

Gen. Chhum Socheat said the talks were aimed at easing military confrontations along the disputed borders as well as discussing on how to combat cross-border terrorism and border developments.

The delegation will not engage in detailed talks on border issues, but the delegation expresses its supports of the call by senior Minister of Border Affairs, Mr. Var Kimhong, for a quick resolution to the border problems between the two countries.

At the same time, a statement from the Cambodian National Assembly said the Chairman of the Thai parliament, Mr. Chai Chidchob, will make an official visit to Cambodia on 24th July, where he will meet with National Assembly President Heng Samrin, Senate President Chea Sim, Prime Minister Hun Sen and an audience with King Sihamoni.

This sounds like another useless meeting. The Cambodian delegation should stay at home to save the money on traveling because by the look of it, it sounds like the meeting will not resolve anything. It will be a cocktail party between the Cambodian and Thai military leaders only.

The meeting is a waste of poor khmer people that need foods and shelters right now.
