Cambodian military sources from Preah Vihear reported that the Thai military had transported cement and equipments in order to build concrete bunkers in the 'disputed zone's near the Preah Vihear temple, but were prevented from doing so by Cambodian troops, reports Radio Free Asia.
A Cambodian soldier based at Chak Ckreng, about 7 kilometres from the Preah Vihear temple, said that the Thai military attempted to build bunkers inside the 'forbidden zone'. And in Sombok Khmum area, about 600 metres from the temple, the Thai military had brought cement to build more concrete trenches there but were prevented from doing so by Cambodian soldiers.
One Cambodian soldier said: "Even in front of our temple, they are trying to build concrete trenches, 4 metres by 4 metres. They had already mixed the cement. The truck brought the concrete mix and stopped there but we stopped them from building the trenches, since the day before yesterday."
Gen. Srey Doek, commander of the Preah Vihear region, said that he knows nothing about the Thai's attempt to build the concrete bunkers in the 'disputed zones', but said that he will not allow them to build the bunkers in the areas. He said: "I don't know anything because I have not received the report yet. If we see that the areas are located in their territories, they can dig the trenches there. It is their rights, but if the areas are disputed zones, we will forbid them from doing so. They forbid us from building anything there, so we will forbid them too."
Mr. Phay Siphan, spokesman for the Council of Ministers who had just completed a tour of the disputed zones, said that he saw that the Thais had attempted to build bunkers in some areas as have been reported, but were prevented from doing so by Cambodian troops.
