Thailand has sent 400 additional troops to the border area of Choam Pass, 15 kilometres east of the Preah Vihear temple, everyday.com quoted Radio Free Asia as broadcasting.

Radio Free Asia quoted a Cambodian military source based in Preah Vihear as saying that three days ago Thailand had sent one unit of 400 Thai troops to station in the border areas opposite the front line Khmer troops.

At the Chak Chreng area, the source said that Thai troops that had been stationed there for more than a month ago had not been withdrawn yet. Cambodian troops were then sent to the area to counter the Thai deployments.

The source said that Cambodian troops had warned Thai troops not to go on patrol in the area without informing the Cambodian side first.

Thai PM's plan to request Unesco to de-register the Preah Vihear temple has re-ignited border tensions. Cambodian Foreign Minister warned that such move could spark a diplomatic war as well as armed conflicts.

According to the Nation newspaper, Gen. Neparn Wiboolsak, the Thai commander of Military Region Two, had ordered his troops to be on high alert. The Thai Commander-in-Chief, Gen, Anupong Paojinda, had phoned in to check on border situations and the readiness of Thai troops.

Media reports indicated that Cambodia had also reinforced its troops to the disputed areas. The Cambodia Daily quoted Cambodian Commander-in-Chief, Gen. Chea Dara, as saying that Cambodia had also increased its troop numbers along the disputed borders. He said that he has led 20 troops to meet with the Thai commanders and told them to withdraw from the areas. He told the Cambodia Daily by phone: "We have told the Thai side that we will increase the troop numbers to defend our territories and our sovereignty and we told them to withdraw their troops immediately."

Gen. Chea Dara however said that he told the Thai that Cambodian soldiers are under strict orders from Prime Minister Hun Sen not enter Thai territories. He said: "Cambodia will not invade Thailand."
