Mr. Sar Kheng: An acting prime minister is like a caretaker prime minister

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sar Kheng (pictured) has said that an acting prime minister is like a caretaker prime minister and does not have all the rights like the prime minister to solve all the problems, reports everyday.com.

In a speech during the opening ceremony of a primary school in Boeng Trav Village, Bot Trong Commune, Mongkolborey District in Banteay Meanchey on 1st of June, Mr. Sar Kheng said: "A house cannot be without a caretaker, the same as a country cannot be without a leader. So, the law requires that there should be an acting prime minister if the prime minister is absent."

Mr. Sar Kheng said that a caretaker prime minister can make dicision on urgent issues but cannot make dicision on big and important issues because a caretaker does not have full rights like the house owner.

Mr. Sar Kheng didn't refer to himself as an acting prime minister directly, but in the past, when Prime Minister Hun Sen was absent, he was the one who always served as acting prime minister. It is not sure if Mr. Sar Kheng is taking a swipe at Prime Minister Hun Sen or Deputy Prime Minister Sok An who sometimes wanted to serve as acting prime minister when Prime Minister Hun Sen was absent.
