Officials from U.S embassy met the Dey Krohorm evictees

Officials from the U.S embassy on Thursday have met with the Dey Krohorm evictees.

Mr. John Johnson, public relations officer of the U.S embassy, said the the meeting took place in response to the concerns raised by civil societies as well as the Dey Krohorm evictees. He said: "Now, we are in the process of studying the issues. We cannot make any further comments, but I want to say that we will be continuing to monitor the issues and we are very concerned about these issues."

The land disputes at Dey Krohorm happened since 2003, but the disputes reached a climax when 7NG company had forcibly evicted the residents, destroying their properties and injuring many people.

About 100 families have been forcibly evicted and were transported to an outskirt housing estate, but 45 families have defiantly refused to go there by continuing to request for the $20,000 monetary compensation negotiated by the 7NG company before the eviction.

Mr. Sor Mony, one of the resdients still asking for the monetary compensation, said that he is still fighting but he feel very pessimistic. He is now protesting in front of Prime Minister Hun Sen's resident. He from Mr. Hun Sen's house: "We don't have any hope. We went to the Municipal Authority and they told us to go to 7NG. When we went to 7NG they told us to return back to the Municipal Authority. When we came to stage a protest in front of Prime Minister Hun Sen's house, he said the same thing. I am very, very pessimistic."

Mr. Chan Saveth, human right investigator from ADHOC, said that the case of the Dey Krohorm evictees has been ignored by the government. Their houses have been demolished, their belongs destroyed and now they are facing jail terms, he said.

Mr. Chan Saveth said that the experiences of Dey Krohorm have exposed a gross human right violation in Cambodia.
