The head of Marks & Spencer (MKS.L: Quote, Profile, Research), Sir Stuart Rose, dismissed any comparison between himself and Pol Pot as he tried to defuse a row over his concentration of power at the high street chain. Rose told a conference in London: "It's not as if I'm Pol Pot here, going round and chopping off heads. It's not as if I rigged the election. We have a united board and believe this to be in the best interests of the business." Critics had suggested a resemblance to the late Cambodian warlord after his promotion was announced on Monday.
