Manekseka Sangkum

This apologetic tone of Nhek Bunchhay over the Hun Sen regime's brutality and random violence against so many of Khmer victims is morally reprehensible, pathetic and at the same while, somewhat understandable for one who was subsequently elevated to the rank of 'Deputy PM' within the same regime's administration. The violence and coup taking place in 1997 was an inevitable outcome or culmination of a sequence of decisions and their consequences that began earlier with Sihanouk's inability to foresee the next moves made by his political opponents via the negotiations that ostensibly centred on 'national unity' and 'reconciliation' among 'Khmers'.

No one in their right state of mind, for instance, would ever consider assimilating or integrating their armed forces into a unified military command structure where your former enemies outnumber you in physical strength by about 3 to 1. Worse, the decision to move the bulk of Funcinpec's armed forces into the heart of your enemy's territory on the outskirt of the capital at Tang Krasang speaks volumes of the poverty in decision making and the lack of sense on the part of the actors involved. Why complain of the disparity in strength and the swift last nail in the coffin violence of 5-6 July 1997 when it is you [and Funcinpec's hierarchy] who had maneuvered yourself into the trap in the first place?

Casting suspicion and attributing responsibility onto the victims or the political opposition for the Veng Streng violence or for that disproportionate use of military force to quell unarmed youths and workers is equally pathetic and "beyond the civilised pale" - in the words of one of Hun Sen's old friends and apologists from Down Under.

THE CNRP SHOULD NOT MAKE ANYMORE UNNNECESSARY MISTAKE

The root cause of the current political tension in Cambodia is largely stemmed from Hun Sen's worry that the CPP is going to lose this next election.

With the new NEC, it is highly likely that the CPP will not be able to proclaim itself as the winner like it did in 2013.

The solution for Hun Sen to stop the CNRP is either breaking the CNRP apart or making the election impossible.

The CNRP must be very cautious about the actions it takes trying to mitigate the tension.

For example, the recent statement delivered by the CNRP to the CPP that it is willing to stop voicing the border issues with Vietnam is extremely detrimental to the CNRP's popularity.

The CNRP must learn how to withstand the heat, the pain caused by the CPP. It must not melt down under pressure. The CNRP dug a deep hole already after it had joined the National Assembly.

The forceful persecution of the CNRP's members by Hun Sen has inadvertently strengthened the CNRP.

Therefore, the CNRP must stand on its principal. Khmer people support the CNRP because it protects Cambodia territorial integrity and Khmer interest.
Again, death, prison, are pain are naturally part of our struggle to free our motherland from Yuon. Nothing is free in this world.

Nek Bunchay was rights about been unrealistic to go armed conflict with a much larger enemies but he was a traitor from beginning. When fighting erupted in July 5 1997 he commanded a very good size FUNCINPEC forces which he chosen to abandon right flank of our nationalist forces in Phnom Penh allowing CPP/Youn through to kill all patriotics commanders of FUNCINPEC.

Nek Bunchay joined Hun Sen since then and will be into the future. Not ounce he mention CPP faults. CPP at that time lost election but use intimidations threaten to ceded most our eastern provinces to join Vietnam and this itself was already a treason. Most of provincials powers were never hand over to the winner FUNCINPEC officials. All security and local levels only listen to second in command CPP officials even though FUNCINPEC was winners and this were a coupe Detate from beginning from CPP grass root level.

Nek Bunchay never ounce that most CPP military commanders were Vietnamese volunteers left behind after UN mandate Vietnam withdraw i n 1989. There are rumors many thousands Vietnamese forces masses near Svay Rieng border waiting to roll their tanks to help CPP forces if their coupe not succeed.

Nek Bunchay never ounce mention that CPP armed wings execute capture FUNCINPEC military commanders and party officials prisoners and this itself fell under UN war crimes laws.

Yes FUNCINPEC leaderships did many wrong moves but that doesn't allow CPP to execute captures prisoners. Also does not allow CPP to take over Royal Government by forces. After the fighting over CPP should had gather evidences against FUNCINPEC leaderships and presented to UNTAC and ask UNTAC to run government temporary until straight thing out. My family was near FUNCINPEC compounds when CPP thugs attacked and most can't speak Khmer or fluently in Khmer. Many were Viets soldiers dressing in Royal Cambodian Army uniforms.

When CNRP by luck able to gain control after election WE MUST ARREST THIS NEK BUNCHAY AND ALL TRAITORS AND PUT THEM THROUGH A REAL JUDICIAL SYSTEM. WE MUST BRING BACK CAPITAL PUNISHMENT JUST FOR THESE TRAITORS.
