An innovative fundraising campaign inspired by the Parisian Hospital Foundation’s annual Operation Pieces Jaunes (Operation Yellow Coins) is set to raise a lot for underprivileged Cambodian children’s education by asking only a little.

For 100 days, children’s NGO Pour un Sourire d’Enfant (PSE) is asking for people to donate all their 100 riel notes as part of what they’re calling Mission Muoy Roy. The Phnom Penh Post is an official supporter of the campaign, which started on June 1.

The funds raised will be used for the Accelerated Learning Studies (ALS) program at PSE Remedial School Center for 660 underprivileged children. ALS covers their nutrition, extracurricular activities, healthcare, school maintenance, social support and rice compensation to their families as well.

“We believe that through many of these small contributions, we can get the children out of poverty for good and into education, which is considered to be the main goal of PSE,” said PSE program director Pin Sarapich in a press release.

Cambodian-American pop singer Laura Mam, who is an ambassador for the fundraiser, said she joined the campaign because she wanted to use her popularity for a good cause.

“Good deeds, no matter how small they are, always add up into something greater. Just like the 100 riel,” she said. “Together, this is a chance to give back to this country and contribute to Cambodia’s future generation.”

Donations of 100 riel notes can be dropped off in branded boxes at Cambodia’s airports, Blue Pumpkin, Dim Sum Emperors, Emperor of China, U-Care, Frangipani Hotels, Topaz, Eric Kayser, Legend Cinema, Chatime and Monument Books.

Donations can also be made through PayGo and Wing kiosks. For more details, visit the website mission100r.com or the Facebook page #Mission Muoy Roy.
