PHNOM PENH, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's passenger train service resumed operations on trial on Saturday after a 14-year hiatus, Tith Sam Oeun, commercial manager of Royal Railway, said.

The Royal Railway, which has a 30-year concession to operate the country's rail network, operated two passenger train services a day between Phnom Penh capital and southwestern Sihanoukville during an eight-day Khmer New Year holiday period, beginning on April 9, he said.

The first train left its Phnom Penh station on Saturday at 7 a.m. and was estimated to take eight-and-a-half hours to reach coastal Sihanoukville in the distance of 266 km, he said.

"All seats were full in the first train," he told Xinhua, adding that tickets for the journey cost six U.S. dollars.

The two trains are able to carry up to 165 passengers each, he added.
