School of Vice: Consider this yet another pro-CPP propaganda piece from a "Khmer Times" writer?
The main Cambodian opposition party has not been at liberty to alter even a comma in all the legislations passed within the last 37 years, let alone directing national resources to bettering the conditions of rural-urban Cambodians. Certainly, this Opposition can offer proposals and ideas through 'debate', but it is powerless to enforce or legislate any of those ideas. It cannot even ensure the physical safety of its members against organised violent attack!
It is doubtful the Vietnamese would have withdrawn their troops from Cambodia in the late 1980s had the KR "remnants" as a credible military force not been there to inflict costly casualties on the occupying army; hence the necessity for western governments and the UN to extend their de facto and de jure support and recognition to that notorious faction. However, it was not their aim to restore the KR to power, and the UN supervised general election in 1993 under the compromise and national "reconciliation" framework of the 1991 Paris Peace Accords had conceivably provided the mechanism for thwarting the possibility of that return to power by military means...
As for the working, judicial direction and or noted/reported frustrations of the ECCC, well, the only political personality having any non-judicial clout on this so-called hybrid institution is the PM himself. The number of international judges/prosecutors who resigned over the years in protest of this illicit interference from the ruling regime should tell us something as to how things work in this country.

It is very doubtful that using unfounded claims about “January 7” in order to win upcoming elections will work. If political parties really want to win these elections, they should ensure rural Cambodians have enough food, clothing and money to send their children to school and university so that the next generation will have a better life.
“January 7” is seen by the CPP – the political party in power – as the second birthday for all Cambodians who survived the Khmer Rouge’s genocidal regime. But Sam Rainsy, who grew up in France, does not acknowledge “January 7” as a glorious day. He considers it part of a political spectacle conceived by the Vietnamese communist forces.
Mr. Rainsy’s argument is that the communist Vietnamese helped the Khmer Rouge win the war against the pro-American government led by Lon Nol on April 17, 1975. After that, he believes the Communist Vietnamese forces used their spies to hijack the policies of the Khmer Rouge government in order to seed hatred among Cambodians who later killed each other for no reason. Later, on January 7, 1979, Communist Vietnamese forces came to occupy Cambodia under the pretext of saving Cambodian people from the genocide committed by the Khmer Rouge regime.
But Mr. Rainsy has not offered any verification of his claims. Maybe he has forgotten that there is an institution called the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) in charge of prosecuting the perpetrators of crimes committed during the Khmer Rouge regime. If Mr. Rainsy really cares about the death of innocent Cambodians under the Khmer Rouge regime, he should ask the ECCC to investigate his claims about Vietnam’s involvement with the Khmer Rouge once they began to commit atrocities.
It is believed that Prime Minister Hun Sen was a military officer in the Khmer Rouge armed forces, considered one of the Khmer Rouge leaders due to his collaboration with them before fleeing to Vietnam.
But if we’re talking about collaboration with the Khmer Rouge, it was not only Prime Minister Hun Sen, but also the UN, the US and many European countries as well.
The fact is when Vietnamese troops occupied Cambodia in the 80s, and the Khmer Rouge fled to Thailand, the UN saw the Khmer Rouge as the only internationally recognized government representing Cambodia, while the US and European countries helped the Khmer Rouge form a coalition comprising of the royalists (Funcinpec), the republicans (KPNLF) and the Khmer Rouge.
After the creation of this coalition, the US and European countries kept providing money and sending weapons to help this coalition fight against the Vietnamese troops in Cambodia. The result was devastating: With the guerilla warfare tactics used by the Khmer Rouge fighters, almost all bridges, roads, schools, hospitals and buildings were destroyed or burned to the ground all over the country, and many innocent lives were lost.
The question of whether the US and certain European countries knew that the Khmer Rouge had killed about two million innocent Cambodians has been raised. Of course they knew very well about the killing fields, but they remained silent because it was useful for them for the Khmer Rouge forces to fight against Vietnamese troops during the Cold War.
This fact is shocking to the Cambodian people who survived the Khmer Rouge’s atrocities. We ask each other and ourselves why the world did that to us. Instead of arresting the killers, the world helped the killers to continue killing us for many years to come. At that time, the world did not talk about setting up a special court like the ECCC to put the killers on trial. They said nothing. Knowing this, it is not hard to see why some Cambodian people are not interested in the ECCC.
On the other hand, opposition parties like to link everything to the Vietnamese issue, because it is a very sensitive problem with roots in past wars and conquests between Cambodia and Vietnam. The fear of loss of land and the fear of another Vietnamese invasion are a big concern for Cambodian people. As a result, when politicians link anything to the Vietnamese, they get widespread support from Cambodians.
Nevertheless, as stated by the US Embassy in Phnom Penh, “The victory over the Khmer Rouge is a victory shared by all Cambodians.”
It can be seen as the second birthday for all Cambodian people without political distinction. Celebrating “January 7” does not mean you support the CPP. It is simply a celebration of a day that, for many people, signifies surviving the killing fields and the Khmer Rouge. It is possible that some veterans, who fought alongside Prime Minister Hun Sen to liberate the country from the Khmer Rouge, are now supporting the opposition party.
In the same way, all the achievements in development, such as roads, bridges, schools and hospitals, are not tied to the ruling party alone. These national projects represent contributions from a number of stakeholders, and they are for all Cambodians. The Japanese government did not build the Neak Loeung Bridge for the CPP alone. They built it for Cambodian people from all walks of life, whether they are CPP supporters or opposition party supporters.
After nearly two decades of civil war, we, the Cambodian people, need to be united in developing our country and installing a solid, liberal, pluralist democracy. Attempts to promote problems with Vietnam could be perceived as trying to invoke war with a neighboring country. On the contrary, we are better off being friends with Vietnam and using peaceful negotiation to solve any problems with them.
If we look at other countries around the world, they also have past wars and conquests with their neighboring countries. For example, the war between France and England lasted for almost 100 years: The French call it “la guerre de cent ans.” But now, the French and British people are working together to build a very strong European community.
It is very doubtful that using unfounded claims about “January 7” in order to win upcoming elections will work. If political parties really want to win these elections, they should ensure rural Cambodians have enough food, clothing and money to send their children to school and university so that the next generation will have a better life.

January 7 is a real sad day that a group of Khmer low life scum khmer communist, remnant of Khmer Rumdos traitors stay on their kneed ,prayed and bagging the enemy of Khmer to invaded our land . This act of treason ,Khmer youth ought to remember in your gut but not celebrate as a victory . Khmer nation have a lot of this kinds of mentally ill and brain deficiency Khmer, Who acted happily, when they see others race neighbor invaded and viciously kill their own race or their families blood . They are cheaper than animal . I believe that good thinker Khmer don't have these kind happiness, when you thought, that these Yuon invaders shoot indiscriminately Khmer innocent life and caused a bleed of Khmer citizen in your own country . This negative celebration is contradict to Khmer nationalist or patriotic, who sacrificed lives for their caused of protecting the nation, it doesn't matter Khmer rouge or Khmer resistance at the border of Thailand .
Pram Pi Makatra is good for those dogs in this picture and their clan.
Only Kanhchas yuon said that 7 makara has to be saved by yuon Hanoi ,but the real Khmer who love their people and country said yuon invaded Khmer kingdom.
This post is very funny. It goes on to say that 7th Jan is not about the CPP but about the victory of the Khmer then it goes to talk about how the CPP built bridges, and built roads.
It goes to show how uneducated the writer is, and unable to come up up with anything positive under the CPP. Sure the French and the English fought each other. But at the end of the day, they settled.
Now look at the Youn and the Khmer. It is not a 2 ways win. Khmer lost 2 millions lives, Vietnam always wanted to conquer Cambodia, they did so in the past and still do today, by installing Hun Sen and CPP, and by getting away with killing 2 million Khmer.
Did the French install a puppet in England? no. Did the English took over the French sovereignty and islands? No. The Youn on the other hand, bits by bits encroached into the Khmer land, took over Prey Nokor (now Saigon) then southern Cambodia ( now South Vietnam) then took over Koh Trall (now Saigon). yet, the Youn got off with a jail free card.
We see the ECCC as useless, because Hun Sen should be tried as the Khmer Rouge Leader also with Heng Samrin, and the Vietnamese should also be tried in ECCC for the genocide on the 2 million Khmer people, the genocide on K5, the genocide on the minorities they have oppressed. Eg, Khmer Krom, Mhong, Champa.
For Khmer to celebrate the 7th of January as a victory for everyone Vietnam have to return all the land back to the Khmer including Southern Cambodia, Prey Nokor, and Koh Tral, and also for Hun Sen to meet the devil in Hell for his ruthless killings under his 30 years of regime.

Well three questions
1/What would happen if those 'scum' never came to Vietnam for help or the 'enemy of Khmer' never came and topped down Khmer Rogue regimes?
2/Did you ever aware that it was Khmer Rogue who raided and invaded Vietnam since 1975?
3/You blame those who stopped Cambodia genocide as scum, thief... then how about you?

So celebration for the liberation of a country from genocidal regime 'is contradict to Khmer nationalist or patriotic'!?

And of course mister Rainsy intentionally forgot about hundreds of raids and invasion conducted by Khmer Rogue into Vietnam's territories, to say the few: Ba Chúc massacre where 3,157 Vietnamese were killed, or the invasion of Thổ Chu then Phú Quốc where more than 500 Vietnamese were murdered just a few days after 30/04/1975. Nor did he remembered not long before Vietnamese's invasion Khmer Rogues concentrated 19 out of their 23 divisions along Vietnam's border ready to attack.
Mister Rainsy also intentionally forgot about Pol Pot's saying about using 2 millions Cambodian to wipe out 50 millions Vietnamese and there was Khmer Rogue's black book!
I wonder Mr Tin sokhavuth
wrote this peice of shit himself, and being consciously the scapegoat for it.
Since its inception, Khmertimes has been hit by unsavory scandals a couple of times.the last one was plagiarism by Mr t mohan which is the worst enemy of neutral and independent news organization. The question is , are some of the Khmertimes reporters are mercenary?.
Thank you,the school of vice for giving what mr tin sokhavuth deserves
part of their plan , divide and conquer... this article is perfect example...CNRP continues to focus on trivial matter... when i was in cambodia last year, i heard people stating that the ruling class fear that if CNRP gets in power they will lose their wealth and that they will do everything they can to keep CNRP from acquiring that power -- even rigging the election... CNRP should begin focusing instead of creating policies that would bring these wealthy people on board with their ideology... taxing the rich to pay for the poor -- does not work -- just look at all the socialist countries around the world now there are more poor people than ever including the US [ 45 millions living off gov handout -- welfare and food stamps]..the rich are the ones who create all laws they will never allow any new law that will reduce their wealth [ there is never a poor person in power -- congress or parliament]... so who end up paying all those taxes... the middle class.. recent study has found that the middle class in the US and Europe is shrinking soon there will be no one left to pay those taxes...and there might be a revolution because the poor will no longer have their promises freebies..[ food, lodging adn healthcare ] that is why they are doing anything they can to remove guns from people hands including cambodia where only the military -- loyal to CPP-- has guns. And what is the little doing instead of focusing on important matters -- bickering and insulting each other for celebrating a meaningless date...soon they will insult each other over celebrating chinese new year or international new year etc... people falls for those in power traps every time... the writer for this article might even be paid by them -- CPP.
