PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Three of jailed land rights activists fainted in Prey Sar prison after they went on hunger strike for ten days to demand justice and their release, Boeung Kok land activist Bov Sophorn said Monday.
She said three jailed activists Mrs. Im Sreytouch, Mrs. Phuong Sopheap and Mrs. Phan Chhunreth became very weak and were dizzy, and now are being treated by physicians in the prison.
"I visited them in the prison last Saturday, and three of them fainted after they were dizzy," she said, adding that Mrs. Phan Chhunreth was in serious condition due to blood pressure issue and weak heart.
Last month, Phnom Penh authorities arrested seven female activists including protest leader Tep Vanny after they protested in front of Phnom Penh City Hall to demand that the government should deal with flooding issues in their community Boeung Kok area.
The seven were charged by Phnom Penh Municipal Court with the violation of traffic law by blocking a public road, and sentenced them one year each in prison.
