Cambodia has 514,278 business establishments: survey [Really? Then why 23% of Cambodians still live below poverty line?]

PHNOM PENH (Xinhua) -- Cambodia currently has approximately 514,278 business establishments, up 11 percent compared with 463,363 in 2011, according to the results of the intercensal economic survey released Monday.

Speaking at the official release of the survey results, Minister of Planning Chhay Than said the survey covered all establishments in Cambodia, except agriculture, forestry and fishery industries. "The survey's results provide useful statistics for various users such as investors, policy makers, government officials, companies, researchers and development partners," he said.

The survey was conducted on 10,000 establishment and enterprise samples across the country in March to update fundamental statistics on the current status of those business activities and their number of employees.

He said the one-month intercensal survey cost nearly 300,000 U. S. dollars.
