Cambodian opposition leader Sam Rainsy said Sunday his party has gained more votes in just-concluded local elections and that democracy will deepen at grass-roots level.
Speaking at a press conference after voting for elections of municipal, provincial and district councilors had closed, Sam Rainsy said his party will gain 185 local assembly seats, raising the number to 764 councilors out of the more than 3,000 local assembly seats at stake.
Tep Nytha, secretary-general of the National Election Committee, said official results will be announced on May 30.
