Sam Rainsy launches Facebook opinion poll over new election

Give our kids a better deal
PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) – Opposition leader Sam Rainsy launched another effort to mobilize support behind the opposition’s demand for a fresh election, by holding pinion poll via his Facebook page.

“Because my Facebook page has the most followers in Cambodia, I could make the opinion poll on any issues to let the residents express their opinion as what is seen in democratic countries,” said Sam Rainsy, the President of the opposition National Rescue Party in his Facebook page.

“Do you want a new election?” is the first question of the opinion poll posted in Sam Rainsy’s Facebook page today.

The opinion poll is regarded as another effort of the opposition leader Sam Rainsy in order to mobilize the support behind the demand of the opposition for a new election.

A political analyst said that the opposition leader may want to seek more supporters from the Facebook fans to put pressure for a new election.

“This new campaign may reflect a fact that the opposition is not ready yet to end boycotting the parliamentary session as long as its demand is not met,” said a political analyst who asked not to be named.

CNRP asked for a new election as it argued that there were too many irregularities in the last July election which handed over the victory to the ruling Cambodian People’s Party of Prime Minister Hun Sen.

The July election result showed that CPP won 68 and CNRP won 55 seats in the 123-seat National Assembly.
