PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) – Director of AAP International Cambodia Co. Ltd sued reporter of Japan’s television network NHK and Cambodian lawyer Kong Sam Oun for defamation, according to a report of Khmer-language Phnom Penh Post today.
The Phnom Penh Post reported that Kon Nokakda, 58, General Director of AAP International Cambodia filed with Phnom Penh Municipal Court, seeking USD100,000 in compensation from each of the two persons.
The Japanese-Cambodian man, 58, was quoted as saying that he decided to file complaints against them because what they said affected his business and dignity.
He added NHK had broadcasted a clip in Japanese language via YouTube a story “Condo investment in Cambodia, disputes rapidly mounts, 700 cases happen to old people” on August 24, 2013, which could be viewed around the world, he said.
NoKakda said the writer of that story was Masahiro Shimizu, who didn’t write about the truth, negatively affecting his reputation, dignity and business.
“The story was unprofessionally written without meeting with me and examining my company documents to make the story balanced,” he said.
The Phnom Penh Post said that the story was also involved with him, Thus, he spoke with NHK because it also affected his interest.
