PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) – The President of Cambodian Independent Teacher Association (CITA) said he would lead a nationwide strike of the teachers next week to demand salary increase for the teachers.
Rong Chhun, CITA’s president, had sent a letter Tuesday to Interior Minister Sar Kheng to ask for the permission to hold the teachers’ strike.
“The aim of the nationwide strike is to demand Cambodian government increase the minimum wage to one million riel ($250) per month for teachers in order to promote their livelihoods and quality of education,” the letter said.
Khieu Sopheak, spokesman for Ministry of Interior, said the ministry hasn’t yet received the letter from Rong Chhun.
Currently, the minimum wage of the teachers is 80 dollars per month.
