PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) – Phnom Penh governor Pa Socheatvong said that authorities will not use forces to crack down on protesters.
“Talk is the only choice to find solutions,” said the governor.
The governor met with Phnom Penh officials to clarify the government’s position on how to deal with protests led by Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP).
Pa Socheatvong added the CNRP protests violated the law, causing public disorder and affecting the livelihoods of the residents.
“I asked all civil servants not to be worried, stay calm and fulfill the work as usual and trust this legal government,” he said.
When asked why government didn’t take action against the activities, which caused public disorder and social security, he said “we are using measures by avoiding using forces.”
“We didn’t badly treat our people or put our countries in emergency situation because it wasn’t on the red line yet,”.
