PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Sam Rainsy, the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) leader, made an announcement to suspend street protests. The decision will ease political tension for a while. The Phnom Penh residents may feel less frustrated due to traffic jams caused by thousands of protesters who marched along the streets in order to demand a new election, the resignation of Prime Minster Hun Sen and the increase of minimum wage of the garment workers from USD 80 to USD 160.
The recent street marches prompted concern about the possible violence. Thus, the sit-in protests during this week will help sooth the worry for a while.
Mr. Sam Rainsy made the announcement last night following his disclosure to intend for a top-level talk with the leaders of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) of Prime Minister Hun Sen.
The post-political tension has been dragging on for over 4 months after the controversial 28 July elections in which CPP won 68 and CNRP won 58 in the 123-seat parliament. Therefore, it is time for the two parties to meet up for honest talks in order to find solutions which can be accepted by the two parties. Any lack of flexibility and honesty in negotiation will not bring about any settlement to the current deadlock.
As we will enter New Year in Only 2 days, it should be the year of normalization and stability for Cambodia. The time is ripe for the winning parties in the 2013 elections to return to the negotiation table to end political crisis. Then, they join hands to make necessary reform which help build up the country’s state and national institutions, including the National Election Committee. It is widely believed that the current political deadlock is caused by low credibility of the National Election Committee. Thus, the credible NEC is very crucial for the democracy of the country. Likewise, It is also important that all politicians shall play the game within a credible system.

How do you get 123 from adding 68+58? that makes it 126. Hmmm..I wonder if my math education is outdated!
ah Nguon Serath, hear khmer people and hear it good. NO talk. Ah Hun Sen must get out, now!!!
The talks will always be useless because the cpp will never care enough for the well being of Cambodian people nor Cambodia. Cpp only interest is control, control, and control.
