Land Rover, Jaguar enter Cambodia [With the minimum wage of $80 per month, these luxury cars can only be afforded by corrupt government officials]

Following the recent wave of luxury car brands entering the Cambodian market, RMA Cambodia’s CEO said yesterday that the firm will bring in UK brands Land Rover and Jaguar by opening a showroom before the end of the year.
The newly appointed official authorised dealer will open a temporary showroom on Russian Boulevard between downtown and the airport, displaying both car brands, CEO Rami Sharaf said. After six months, a “fully fledged” dealership is expected to be open, offering sales, spare parts and services.
“The market is there and I’m 100 per cent confident that the market will grow,” Sharaf said. With the country’s steady growth, more people are seeking high-end products such as luxury cars, he said.
A handful of brands are seeking a foothold in Cambodia’s tiny but growing prestige car market. Audi will start sales in mid-2014. BMW opened a showroom this month and Porsche announced plans to open a full sales, service and spare parts facility by mid-2014.

Hi Anne,

I am a Khmer-native, currently living in Bridgewater, MASS, USA for the past 31 years. I just want to say thanks for sharing the article about the Land Rover and Jag enter into the Cambodian market. I absolutely agree that those garment workers can't afford one of these car but the corrupt gov't officials.

Thanks,
Savy, Bridgewater, MASS, USA. Next Boston, MASS
