Cambodia yet to issue warning to its citizens visiting Bangkok

PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Ministry and International Cooperation has not yet issued a warning advisory to Cambodian citizens living, working or visiting Bangkok, Thailand, admits soaring politic tensions after opposition protestors had occupied Thai government buildings.

There is no risk or harm to Cambodian citizens because of the political situation in Bangkok, according to a government spokesman.

"The situation in Bangkok has not reached the level where we need to issue a warning to Cambodians about visiting the country," Koy Kuong, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, said Wednesday.

"The Cambodian Embassy in Bangkok is following the political situation very closely," he said. "Cambodian citizens understand the political issues in Bangkok, and they know where to go and not to go."

Over the recent International Court of Justice (ICJ) verdict, he said Cambodia is ready at all the times to implement the ICJ verdict, but the talks between the two countries could not be held at this time due to the problems in Bangkok.

Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra announced today that Bangkok is in a state of emergency after Thai opposition party protestors had stepped up their campaign to oust the Shinawatra government.

To date, at least 23 countries have issued warning advisories to their citizens visiting Bangkok. - See more at: http://www.thecambodiaherald.com/cambodia/detail/1?page=11&token=MWQyYjdmYWNiZTl#sthash.xrLDkIYS.dpuf
