Nhiek Bun Chhay denies talks with opposition leader abroad

Give our kids a better deal
Funcinpec Party secretary general, Nhiek Bun Chhay on Wednesday denied that he met and spoke with opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party leader, Sam Rainsy.
PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Funcinpec Party secretary general, Nhiek Bun Chhay on Wednesday denied that he met and spoke with opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party leader, Sam Rainsy.

He denied in a news conference, the allegation that he had intentionally flown with the opposition party leader for discussions.

Nhiek Bun Chhay had coincidentally taken the same flight abroad with Sam Rainsy on October 7.

However, Bun Chhay said there were no plans for any meetings with the Cambodia National Rescue Party's official.

It was a coincidence flight because I always leave the country for a medical checkup once or twice a year in Bangkok, Thailand, he added.

"I didn’t have any discussions with the Cambodia National Rescue Party leader on my flight from Phnom Penh to Bangkok," he said in the news conference.

"I didn’t plan any talks in Bangkok," he said, adding that I had left when I arrived in Bangkok.

Recently, Nhiek Bun Chhay, former Deputy Prime Minister in fourth mandate was appointed as a government consultant by King Norodom Sihamoni.

Hun Sen will use Funcinpec to support him when he has internal problems within the CPP. Right now the Chea Sim-Sar Kheng-Say Chhum's faction is very strong. After the next election may be they will kick Hun sen out of the prime minister's position so that's why Hun Sen makes Funcinpec as an ally now to counter Chea Sim's faction.
