PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- King Norodom Sihamoni on Wednesday appealed once again to the 55 elected lawmakers of the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) to attend the first session of the National Assembly to be held on September 23.
"I would like to invite His Excellencies, and Her Excellencies to attend the first session of parliament to show unification and national unity," he said in the letter.
"I will preside over the fifth mandate's first session of the National Assembly on September 23," the letter added.
CNRP opposition leaders on Tuesday said that they and their elected lawmakers will not join the first session of the National Assembly if there's still no solution reached to the election disputes.
The opposition still demands an independent poll inquiry committee to probe into the alleged election irregularities.
Both the ruling, CPP and the opposition, CNRP on Tuesday said they were moving closer to ending the country’s political crisis after the third meeting between the two opposing party leaders which took place at the National Assembly.
"The two parties have moved closer, and are currently trying to find a joint policy before the first parliamentary session," CNRP spokesman Yim Sovan told reporters at a news conference on Tuesday.

នៅក្នុងព្រះរាជសារព្រះមហាក្សត្របានឲ្យដឹងថា ព្រះអង្គបានទទួលរួចហើយនូវលិខិតរបស់ឯកឧត្ដម និងលោកជំទាវទាំង ៥៥រូប ចុះថ្ងៃទី១៤ កញ្ញា ឆ្នាំ២០១៣ ដែលបានទូលថ្វាយព្រះអង្គអំពីបញ្ហាពាក់ព័ន្ធនឹងការបើកសម័យប្រជុំដំបូងនៃរដ្ឋសភានីតិកាលទី៥។
កាលពីថ្ងៃទី១៧ កញ្ញា លោក សម រង្ស៊ី និងលោក កឹម សុខា បានថ្លែងទៅកាន់អ្នកគាំទ្ររាប់ម៉ឺននាក់នៅទីលានប្រជាធិបតេយ្យ ថាបើសិនជាការទាមទាររបស់គណបក្សសង្គ្រោះជាតិ ទាក់ទងជាមួយការផ្ដល់យុត្តិធម៌ដល់អ្នកបោះឆ្នោតមិនបានជោគជ័យទេ សមាជិកសភាមកពីគណបក្សសង្គ្រោះជាតិមិនចូលរួមសម័យប្រជុំសភាដំបូងឡើយ។
ចាប់តាំងពីមានការតវ៉ារបស់គណបក្សសង្គ្រោះជាតិ និងអ្នកគាំទ្ររាប់ម៉ឺននាក់ចំពោះភាពមិនប្រក្រតីក្នុងការបោះឆ្នោតកន្លងមក គណបក្សសង្គ្រោះជាតិបានរៀបចំបាតុកម្មអហិង្សាតវ៉ាចំនួន ២លើកហើយនៅទីលានប្រជាធិបតេយ្យ ក្នុងរាជធានីភ្នំពេញ។
នៅក្នុងបាតុកម្មតវ៉ាលើកទី២ ថ្ងៃទី១៥ កញ្ញា អាជ្ញាធរបានបិទផ្លូវមួយចំនួននៅរាជធានីភ្នំពេញ ធ្វើឲ្យមានការប៉ះទង្គិចជាមួយអ្នកដំណើរនៅស្ពានអាកាសក្បាលថ្នល់ បណ្ដាលឲ្យមានការបង្ក្រាបធ្វើឲ្យស្លាប់មនុស្សម្នាក់ របួសមួយចំនួន និងចាប់ខ្លួនបញ្ជូនទៅតុលាការកាត់ទោស ៦នាក់។
ទាក់ទងនឹងការបើកកិច្ចប្រជុំសភានេះដែរ អ្នកវិភាគលើកឡើងថា កម្ពុជានឹងមានវិបត្តិធ្ងន់ធ្ងរនៅពេលខាងមុខ ប្រសិនគណបក្សប្រជាជនកម្ពុជា បើកកិច្ចប្រជុំសភានៅថ្ងៃទី២៣ កញ្ញា ដោយឯកបក្សមែននោះ ហើយកម្ពុជានឹងដើរផ្ទុយពីលទ្ធិប្រជាធិបតេយ្យ និងរំលោភរដ្ឋធម្មនុញ្ញ។
