PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Prime Minister Hun Sen on Tuesday said that the stalemate between the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) during the meetings are due to the CNRP's wanting of the chairman's seat in the National Assembly .
"The Cambodian People’s Party can not let a party which has minority seats in the National Assembly work as the chairman of the National Assembly,” he told reporters after Tuesday's parliamentary session in which lawmakers held a confidence vote.
Hun Sen spoke of the possibility of granting certain concessions to the Cambodia National Rescue Party, such as giving them the vice-chairman's seat and other National Assembly posts such ascommission chairman.
However, he said before moving to these talks, lawmakers of the CNRP must swear in the Royal Palace that they have only 55 elected lawmakers, not 63 as claimed.
The offering of the vice-chairman's seat of the National Assembly and some other parliamentary commission chairman seats to the opposition, must be passed through a special vote in the National Assembly, he added.
