Phnom Penh (The Cambodia Herald)- Cambodia's Social
Affairs Minister urged factory workers, employers and the public not to
be concerned regarding the rumors of disorder and planned protests after
the country's recent parliamentary election.
"There's always
political compromise after every election, and all sides will always
meet to find solutions to ensure security," Ith Sam Heng said in a
letter issued Tuesday.
He appealed to all factories and enterprises within the country to proceed as normal.
"The
Cambodian government responsibly takes all necessary actions to ensure
security and order for the country's development and livelihood of its
citizens," he said.
Authorities will take action to apprehend the culprits who are behind the spread of the illegal rumors and threats, he added.
Ith Sam Heng also said that the government will hold three party discussions to increase the minimum wage of workers by 2014.
A prominent union leader also appealed to workers Tuesday to stay calm and ignore the rumors.
“To
me, I think nothing will happen," said Chea Mony, president of the Free
Trade Union of Workers of Cambodia (FTUWC). "Workers should continue working as usual."
