Phnom Penh (The Cambodia Herald)- Opposition party
leader Sam Rainsy has announced that his Cambodian National Rescue Party
(CNRP) will not participate in the first session of parliament unless
the poll results are reversed.
We will not attend the first
session of the National Assembly if a proper solution hasn't been found
regarding ballot fraud, we will stand up and demand for change in 2013,
Sam Rainsy posted on his Facebook page, Monday.
The NEC’s
preliminary results showed that the ruling Cambodian People’s Party
(CPP) won 68 seats out of 123 seats in parliament, while the opposition
party won only 55 seats.
But the CNRP has rejected the results, claiming that they had won at least 63 seats, giving them the victory in the polls.
They
called for a joint investigation, which must include a UN presence,
over what they believed to be irregularities in the election.
Prime
Minister Hun Sen announced recently that his ruling party can still
hold the session in the National Assembly as parliament needs only 63
lawmakers for the parliamentary sessions.
