PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- A ruling party lawmaker said on Thursday that he will join a Khmer
Rouge's victims-led demonstration against opposition leader Kem Sokha
this weekend.
Around 20,000 people will participate in the protest demonstrations intiated by Chum Mey, a survivor of Tuol Sleng prison, a Khmer Rouge facility where at least 13,000 Cambodians were tortured before being executed during the Khmer Rouge rule to demand Kem Sokha publicly apologize to the spirits of the dead, murdered by the Khmer Rouge
"As I'm a Cambodian and a lawmaker, I will join the non-violent protest with other Cambodians and Tuol Sleng’s survivors on Sunday", said Chheang Vun, a CPP's lawmaker,
The protest was planned against Kem Sokha over his comments last month at a forum in Pailin stating that Tuol Sleng prison was an artificial place prepared by Vietnam.
Sokha’s comment had provoked outrage among the victims of the Khmer Rouge regime which caused the death of around two million people from starvation, overwork and execution during 1975-79.
"Kem Sokha’s speeches really affected all Cambodian citizens especially the former prisoners of Tuol Sleng prison," Vun said.
"I support the protest demonstration held by the Cambodian people against Kem Sokha, demanding he apologize to souls of the dead at Tuol Sleng prison."
Late last month, Prime Minister Hun Sen attacked Kem Sokha over his comments regarding Tuol Sleng and the Khmer Rouge, and called upon lawmakers of the CPP and Funcinpec Party to create a denial law to punish those who say the Khmer Rouge did not commit genocidal atrocities against the people of Cambodia.
The law consists of five articles and will be discussed in a National Assembly session on Friday. Those who break the law will face from six months up to two years imprisonment, and fined from one to four million riels.

I think what the CPP is doing is making voters more angry with them (CPP). The voters know the CPP dirty tricks, this is a stupid idea - the CPP will lose more votes.
