Thailand will propose two special economic
zones in Sa Kaeo and Trat provinces in talks with Cambodia next month,
Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul said on Monday.
Mr Surapong will co-chair the joint working group on border
development and transport links with his Cambodian counterpart Hor Nam
Hong during the talks.
Mr Surapong said Thailand will use the same model with Myanmar to
develop two special economic zones linking Sa Keo’s Aranyaprathet
district and Poipet town in Banteay Meancheay province and between
Trat’s Khlong Yai district and Koh Kong province of Cambodia.
Thailand will build a special economic zone with Myanmar at Mae Sot
district and Myawaddy town with incentives and relaxed regulations on
border crossings for workers to benefit various industries.
Mr Surapong, who is a deputy prime minister, will lead senior Thai
officials in talks with their Cambodian counterparts led by Foreign
Minister Hor Nam Hong in Phnom Penh on June 10-11.
