PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- The National Rescue Party (NRP) will hold another demonstration to demand for the reforms of National Election Committee (NEC), Ho Vann, senior official of the NRP, told reporters Thursday.

He said the protest this month will march to present petitions to officials of the European Union (EU) and the United Nations to ask these two major international institutions to urge changes in the NEC.

We plan to protest again because the NEC’s answers haven’t satisfied our requests, the NEC must be willing to respond to protestors demands.

The NRP hasn't currently set a number of participants in this month’s protest yet, Vann added.

Tep Nitha, Secretary General of National Election Committee, said the NEC had accepted and adopted several points of the UN’s recommendations.

The opposition parties have rights to hold protest as they wish, he said.

Recently, the NRP, a merger between Cambodia’s two major oppositions, Sam Rainsy and Human Rights parties, held a mass demonstration on April 24th at Democratic Park, demanding reforms with in the NEC.

After the officials of NRP read theirs statements in front of around 4,000 protestors, NEC officials came to the site to accept the petition.

The second round of protests by the NRP this month could coincide with a visit of Surya Subedi, United Nations special rapporteur, to Cambodia on May 19.
