PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Prime Minister
Hun Sen called on all citizens of Cambodia to keep calm during the
International Court of Justice (ICJ) hearings concerning the Preah
Vihear temple.
The tension over the temple along the Cambodian-Thai border is mounting because the (ICJ) hearings takes another four days before the verdict is announced.
Hun Sen told citizens to trust in the government and said, the tension along the border between the two nations occurred under a different administration, the administration of former Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.
The Thailand invasion of the disputed 4 x 6 square kilometer area around the temple resulted in Cambodia's demand that the ICJ explain the verdict that was made in 1962, in which Thailand lost and awarded Cambodia the area.
Cambodia will request the court to interpret the original ruling on April 15th, while Thailand will do the same on April 17th. The hearings will end on April 19th.
