Two of PM’s sons eye political office [Is this a North Korea-style dynastic succession?] ហ៊ុន សែន កំពុងតែរៀបចំការផ្ទេរអំណាចតពូជ

Hun Many, Hun Sen's youngest son.

Two of Prime Minister Hun Sen’s three sons will run as lawmakers in the upcoming election, a ruling party official said yesterday.
Senior CPP lawmaker Cheam Yeap told the Post that the party’s permanent committee met last week to finalise a candidature list, which included the names of two of Hun Sen’s sons.
“The sons of Samdech Techo [Hun Sen] are all completely capable and have appropriate work experience,” said Yeap. Though Yeap declined to specify which two sons would be listed, several political observers predicted that Hun Manet and Hun Many – the eldest and youngest sons, respectively – would be the most likely pair.
In recent years, two-star General Manet, 35, has been increasingly involved in public events – attending ASEAN summits, inaugurating buildings and distributing donations on his father’s behalf. Thirty-year-old Many, meanwhile, who is an official in Hun Sen’s cabinet, has been progressively building up a youth portfolio. Last year, he launched a large-scale volunteer group called “Youth in the Cause of the Motherland”.
Colonel Hun Manith, 31, also holds prominent government positions: one as the deputy chief of the Defence Ministry’s Military Intelligence Unit and another as deputy secretary-general of the National General Secretariat for Land Disputes.
All three sons received training at elite US or US-funded military institutions. Manet, who in the late 1990s was the first Cambodian to attend the US Military Academy at West Point, also holds a PhD in economics, while Many holds two master’s degrees.
Manet and Many could not be reached for comment yesterday. Manith said he was not on the candidature list, but also denied that either of his brothers were.
The premier’s sons were listed as part of a larger initiative to retire elderly members of the party who have grown unable to fulfill their obligation as lawmakers, said Yeap. In total, 30 per cent of the CPP’s current lawmakers will be retired and replaced by younger candidates.
Analysts and election monitors said it was wise for the party to address the problem of its aging membership, but urged that any steps taken to replace candidates were done so in a transparent manner.
“I think promoting youth in politics is important because all the politicians are so old. Many are in their eighties, and they lack energy. However, the problem is how to give equal opportunity to other youth [who may want] to engage in politics. I think this is very important, otherwise they open themselves up to criticisms of cronyism,” said Koul Panha, executive director of the Committee for Free and Fair Elections in Cambodia.
Both he and political analyst Lao Mong Hay said they felt there was nothing inherently wrong with members of the premier’s family joining politics, noting that politics dynasties existed across the globe.
“I think it’s a good thing for these young men to enter politics and prove themselves. For them to learn the ropes,” said Mong Hay.
“It’s up to the people, whether they want to vote for them or not.”

Let be fair, honest, and have a basic understanding.

This is my personal opinion:

I don't believe that Hun Sen's eldest son, Hun, Manet is not anyway like his father. I believe he is intelligent, educated, have pleasant personality, very patriotic to our people, for sure he is not willing to accept any influences from any foreigners. In our history, I don't remember that we ever had a leader of Hun Manet's stature, including any Monarchy member. Realistically, I think Hun, Maneth will be a good leader for our country, our people and our future.

I don't think he deserve to be compared to North Korean leader, Kim Jung Il. It is unfair to Hun Manet. Give him a chance and allow him to be a little mature. I am confident that he will lead us[Khmer] to a promise land.

I am not a party to anyone, I like all Khmer that have the same objective as I am, as long as any Khmer leader honest to our people, protect and defend our country from all enemy, protect our territorial integrity and sovereignty, a true patriotic to our country and to our people, allow our people to have freedom, independence, self-reliance, equal justice, and every Khmer to have an opportunity to pursue happiness and prosperity.

I am not a politician, I never have nor will I be one, I don't hate Sam Raingsy, Hun Sen, nor any of Monarchy member. I like any Khmer that is willing to sacrifice his soul for his country and his people, like Mr. Ho Chi Minh did for his people...Can anyone of our Khmer people step up and use Mr. Ho's ideology and willing to sacrifice his soul.

I cannot predict how good Mr Manet is but I know that
Kim Jong Un is more hostile than his father is toward the
West . It is on the contrary to the Westerners' analysis
before he took power .

All politicians start with good intention.

But end up corrupt.
Its a virus that spreads in any country.

Munet and Many, have been laying foundation for succession for many years now.

Hun Sen create his dynasty with his viet wife, viet boss and viet offspring.

His Viet master will make sure Cambodian's are fooled and continue to see Sihanouk face in the moon.

Mr.Ang Seg,
Sounds great.

I also believe that Hun Manet will be better than his father, but I don't like succession from father to sons, like in the old days or communist states.
All Hun Sen's sons got positions from his father, like in the military. They did not get it from their ability, though they are well educated. But many well-educated children of the poor were never given a chance because of corruption, cronyism and nepotism.

Being well educated doesn't mean anything.

Look at Prince Ranarith. A Ph.d in political science from France.

Manet Ph.d in economic. Completed his entire education from Freshman at West Point to Ph.d in less than 10 years.

I agree. The Hun puppies are no different to the Hun Dog. Like father like son, Hun Sen has been killing and selling the country. How different will the country be under his father foundation?

He will be a ruthless killer, born in the family that cares only about power through killings and jailing of innocent Khmers.

Now his father jails an old man to 20 years with no evidence, you think that the Hun puppies will be different to his father? How so?

Do we want to wait till the Hun Dog is 90 and dies, waiting for another 30 years then allowing his Hun Puppies to take over his fathers's Regime?

Lets be fair. Hun Sen is a killer. So will his sons.

Education - depends on what kind of education - Ph.d in Political Sc. is another name for uselessness and fit only at joining the unemployed queue, good examples are Ranaridth and Veng Serey Vuth (good at sharing wife??.For the Hun boys - they grow up knowing full well of their family background and how they accumulate their wealth and how corrupt their father and the people they associate themselves with - AND YET HAVE THEY DONE ANYTHING ABOUT IT??? SO MUCH IS THEIR EDUCATION AND WHAT IS WORTH!!! So those who may believe that the HUN boys can be better - you can all start praying and apologising!!!

In Cambodia , the children from poor families have never been well educated .
They are lucky if they finish middle school . Khmer children have to pay
their teachers to get grades even in public school . Teachers' salaries are
very low so that they have to sell all kind of school papers & grade to children .

When a dictator select his successor , he has to make sure his son or sons will
continue what he is doing . The two sons of Hun have been trained as the way
their father want them to be and they sure have passed several tests .
Kim Jong Nam was prepared by Kim Jong Il for his successor , later he ( Nam ) was
out of his father favor because Kim Jong Il did not expect that Jong Nam will preserve
his father's leadership .
The two young Hun will do what their father has done - just look at Volunteer Youth
led by Manith : whereever the volunteer youth go , the province governor and other
high ranks must go to greet them and provide them whatever they need otherwise they will be in trouble . This is a dictatorship style that Manith has done well as his father set up to test him . Manet has been rarely listened to other opinions or explanations of
his subordinates because he is too proud of his high education abroad - he will lead Cambodia with military style .

You're copy the previous message, but i have to agree with you because i too is neutral,i am not with anyone party,i hated corrupts people and greedy people.I also hated nepotism, cronism, favoritism, and communism.I am a fair minded individual who grew up in the civilized society lived thru Hell on earth [K.R regime] as a young boy victimized by K.R regime.I'd like to see these young educators like the three Hun's give up their nepotism/communism due to they all educated by the free world/democratic society, they owed it to western society they should give up communism.further more, they should give opportunity and justice to all khmers not just the well connect people, enforce the law of the land protect our mother land prosecute those which breaks the law regardless of their statue in life, rich, poor, powerful, homeless on the street or any thing in between all subject to abide by the rules of law,NO FAVORITISM!.You break the law you pay the consequence, you commit crime, your serve your time.No excuse nor exception.
