PHNOM PENH, 12 February 2013 ( The Cambodia Herald)- The lavish funeral pyre where the
late king Father Norodom Sihanouk was cremated last week is attracting
local and foreign visitors.
Tourism operators have asked the government to maintain the $1.2 million site in front of the National Museum for a while so tourists can visit.
"For the period that people are allowed to visit the site, we are opening roads and streets," Phnom Penh Police Commissioner Choun Sovan says.
"We faced difficulties during the ceremonies when we blocked streets and made people feel unhappy."
Choun Sovan praised efforts to maintain security during the seven-day funeral that ended last Thursday.
The cremation on Monday last week was attended by foreign dignitaries from Australia, Brunei, Canada, China, France, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
