Land activists in tent protest with children at US embassy

PHNOM PENH, 9 October 2012 (Cambodia Herald) - Residents of two property development sites have gathered in front of the US Embassy for two days and two nights with the hope of presenting a petition to President Barack Obama.

The residents, including children, have been staying in tents since Wednesday.

"We make non-violent protests every day," said Tep Vanny, a resident of Boeung Kok. "We chose a place in front of the US Embassy to protest to show our difficulty.

"I will send a letter to Barack Obama when to comes to Cambodia to attend the ASEAN summit and meets head of government Hun Sen."

Obama is scheduled to leave Washington on November 17 for Cambodia as well as Myanmar and Thailand.
