Subedi objects to Cambodian PM's remarks [UN envoy calls Hun Sen's personal attack on him "unbecoming of a person of the prime minister´s stature"]

The Republica, Nepal

KATHMANDU, Oct 7, 2012: UN Human Rights Envoy to Cambodia Prof Surya Subedi has taken a strong exception to the scathing criticism of him by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, saying it was unbecoming of a person of the prime minister´s stature to “descend to the personal level”.

In a statement on Sunday, Prof Subedi, who is currently working as UN Human Rights Rapporteur to Cambodia, defended his report presented last month that said a series of Cambodian land dispute´s "indicate an increasingly desperate and unhappy population."

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on Thursday lashed out at Subedi for what he called writing “untrue” reports about his country, while suggesting to Subedi to worry about his home land instead.

While stating that there is room for improvement in Cambodia, Subedi said his job is to identify the shortcomings that exist in the system and offer his recommendations to address the issues. "I do not wish to descend to the personal level and do not wish to have a dialogue with him [Hun Sen] or anybody in the government through the media," he said.

According to a news filed by AFP news agency, Hun Sen in his speech in Phnom Penh also criticized Nepal saying the author of the “untrue” writing is a national from a country that “has already abolished monarchy” and "at this hour…has no constitution“´ "Hopefully, he will go and help his own country. That would be better than helping Cambodia," the report quoted Hun as further saying.

Prof Subedi clarified that he was working in his professional capacity in Cambodia and that he expected others to do the same. "I am not representing Nepal in Cambodia. I am a professor of international law, a barrister and human rights advocate. I am an independent expert working on behalf of the UN with a view to helping the people of Cambodia," Subedi said in the statement.

Subedi also said that though Nepal does not have a full-fledged constitution now, it has a democratic interim constitution and that parties are trying to write a new constitution with a view to strengthening democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

"Nepal has a liberal democracy where the judiciary is independent and people do not go to jail for criticizing the government. The civil society is vibrant and the government in Nepal respects and listens to the representatives of the civil society," he said.

It's is shameful for Cambodia and the Cambodian people to have a prime minister who speaks like a gangster and his speech was labeled by the UN envoy as "unbecoming of a person of the prime minister´s stature". Cambodia becomes a mafia state because we have a prime minister who is a mafia boss and gangster.

Someone needs to really translate Hun Sen's perjorative comments attacking Subedi. Hun Sen described Subedi as a stray dog walking aimlessly in Cambodia and then met one or two opponent activist groups and then wrote his report based on those opposing groups. Hun Sen said that the Subedi dog really needs to care for his own birth country instead if he claims to be a lawyer. Hun Sen said that as a lawyer, the Subedi dog needs to help his countrymen write a new constitution. Hun Sen said more though.

You are right. Hun Sen is a low life uneducated loser. His win win policy means he will stay in power till he's 90 years old. Anyone who dares to promote transparency and freedom of expressions and human right, one way or another will meet Hun Sen jungle law.

The Vietnamese did well picking this stray Khmer Rogue to be in power, now he's doing everything he can to stay in the seat.

The father of communism of Russia name Joseph Stalin and his philosophy was: killed all intellectuals and well educated individuals, because these people were not easy to controls they have intellect ability to use their own mind to solve conflict that communism were not be able to used or controlled them, only way to controlled them are killing them.

Also Stalin said:keep the dumb and the useful idiot,an idiot that can be used as a tool to kill anyone that communism wanted, pol pot did just that,Hun sen did just that. These were useful idiot of Joseph Stalin, the student of Ho chi Minh and Ho chi Minh was a student Joseph Stalin and Mao Tsetong of China.

Too bad we have a leader that can not distiquish what is right or what is wrong in term of critism of his critics lashed out whom is working on behalf of UN to watch out for khmers citizens if Mr surya didn't work for UN I am sure he won't stick his nose on Cambodia's matters but he has his authority to do so for UN envoy to Cambodia, that why he recommend on what he find that Cambodia needs most in term of its citizens rights.

Pol Pot may have been the leader but he wasn't in charge of all the killings. It was the Vietnamese. You keep blaming Pol Pot of killing the intellect. That is what the Vietnamese and te American wants the world to believe.

But if we look at history Pol Pot came into power from 1975-1978. They came into power after having been trained by the Vietnamese in Vietnam. Also the Vietnamese was the one that created the communist regime by killing the Lon Nol government and planting Pol Pot.

It's not as simple as Stalin. Pol Pot couldn't have done any thing alone. The Vietnamese had many roles and responsibility. Pol Pot may have started killing from 1976-1978.

From 1976 that's when the fighting with the Vietnamese occurs because Pol Pot refuse to send Khmer to die in the K5 planning.

All I ask of you is to research this topic and debate with me if you still insist that Pol Pot played a large role in the genocide.

As far as I have seen Pol Pot may have killed mainly Khmer but for majority of Khmer died, the Vietnamese murdered many behind his back. Remember 2 million Khmer may have died but for 8 years, half of the country was bombed by the Americans. With over 2 million bomb dropped, the Americans killed over half a million. What about the Vietnamese who had planted Pol Pot. How many did the Vietnamese really killed from 1976-1979?

There are to many answered questions. The Americans are in it as much as the Vietnamese. But the American gained nothing and the Vietnamese gained everything, let's not forget the K5 planning another genocide which te Vietnamese intend to finish the job for Pol Pot.

You're too stupid to even write proper English !!!

Prof Subedi who is a UN Human Rights Rapporteur was doing his job reporting about Cambodia situation. His work is very beneficial to Cambodia. Hun Sen and many others that object to his report should take some courses in college to understand constructive criticisms.
