SAM RAINSY AND KEM SOKHA IN AUSTRALIA
Representing the united democratic opposition, Sam Rainsy and Kem Sokha,
respectively president and future vice-president of the Cambodia
National Rescue Party (CNRP), are currently on a 10-day visit to
Australia and New Zealand.
The two leaders are today in Canberra meeting with Australian Members of
Parliament and government officials from the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs and Trade and Ausaid. They have also been meeting with Cambodian
communities all over the country. On October 6 and 7, crowds of
unprecedented size (+500) attended two public meetings organized by
supporters of the CNRP in Melbourne and Sydney.
The two leaders are flying to New Zealand on October 11, being expected
in Wellington and Auckland. They will attend a last public meeting in
Adelaide, back to Australia, on October 14.
In the second half of October, Sam Rainsy will be in Abidjan (Cote
d'Ivoire) to attend a Congress of Liberal International (the Sam Rainsy
Party is a full member of LI). Afterwards, the CNRP president will fly
to Quebec (Canada) to attend a meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union
(IPU) where he will testify before the Committee on the human rights of
parliamentarians.
