The United States hospital ship USNS Mercy is to
start providing free medical and other services to Cambodians from this
weekend, the US Embassy said Thursday.
A statement said the two-week port call was part of Pacific Partnership, the US Pacific Fleet’s largest annual humanitarian and civic action mission in the Asia-Pacific region. Cambodia first hosted the event in 2010.
The mission coordinates host and partner nations with non-governmental organizations and other agencies to ensure synchronized responses to natural disasters.
The embassy said more than 1,200 multinational military service members and civilians would help provide free medical, dental, veterinary and engineering assistance.
