Most visitors described Angkor Wat, as a
majestic and an astounding temple. Visitors could feel the senses of
greatness and sacredness, when they visit it on the actual site.
It’s
a mind blowing complex. If you could imagine yourself as King Jayavarman VII, who responsible for all of Angkor project [Editor's note: Angkor Wat was built by King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century]. Imagine
to the time, a few months before Angkor Wat was built, imagine to the
moment he was standing there on his very first day on the actual site,
where he decided to build Angkor Wat . That site must have been filled
with tall trees and grasses everywhere, and there was not a single stone
that could be dug out or cut to shapes or to be carved nearby. All
of the stones that were used to build Angkor Wat were mostly cut out from
hundreds of kilometers away deep inside Thailand, in 12th century it
used to be a part of our Khmer kingdom, and transported them by roads [In the 12th century, Thailand did not exist yet. Thailand or Siam only came into being in 1296].
What was it behind our king’s mind to set out to achieve something that
human race had never done to such a scale before? Mind you, there were no
aid from China, America or Vietnam. They did it all by themselves and
they made us proud to be Khmer nation. Even India, a country that got a huge
population, thousand times than us and whose architectures we copied, has wondered about our achievements as a Khmer
nation.
How they did it is not fully understood by our modern
architects, as some of those stones were so huge and heavy beyond
human’s capacity to lift them up so high. It is as tall as 25 stories
building, 65metres above the ground. Mind you, there were no cranes or
machines were used to help in those days, all were made by hands, but all
of that entire impossible project didn't deter the king's from his
splendid-dreamed-design.
Angkor Wat was not designed in our king’s mind for
competition for price; for the competition with the outside world or as
his own palace for prestige, but instead it was built as a sacred place,
where all his subjects young and old could all come and worship or
look up to.
Angkor Wat back then stood as the first tallest
building in the universe for hundred of years and it still remains the
world biggest Buddhist temple to this present day. The magnificent and an
astounding complexity of Angkor Wat is simply the clear magnitude of the
greatness state of mind that our king Suryavarman the II, the builder of Angkor Wat, obtained in his
wisdom and vision.
Somehow, this heritage of greatness is still seen in everyone of our heroes, who had sacrificed their lives for us
and who are still alive and dare to fight with traitors or enemies.
Mam
Sonando's patriotism, through the captured video footage, is like a
dream. He wrote beautiful poetry that came out of his pure heart to
inspire children as well as adults alike. His poetry reflected an epic
of his devotion for our country. He enlightened people, young and old,
about their rights and their liberties, about justice and freedom. These
are the areas that not many people would dare or are willing to speak out,
as Hun Sen and his cronies have been renounced for killing a lot of our
compatriots in the past.
This is something that is so special
for us to be inspired and to be witnessed in our generation. We all
should uplift his heroism and glamorise his spirit of being greatness
just like our ancestors who were inspired by King Javaraman VII in their
time.
Perhaps, greatness is the special state of mind that are the
source of wisdom of vision, of courage and of bravery, that every Khmer
should learn to adopt and to obtain, in order to achieve something
great in life.
Wisdom and vision are eyes in our mind, bravery and courage are our wings that fly us to the land of freedom.
