A New Chapter of Betrayal Is Being Written in Our History

By Khmer Academy
Our country is presently going through another dark moment of its history as we witness a new chapter of betrayal is being written.  The authority has recently admitted that several villages, including the birth place of H.E. Heng Samrin, the current Chairman of the National Assembly, will be ceded as part of the Eastern border demarcation process. This is totally in contrast to what it has said, and unjustly prosecuted those who disagreed, for years that not a single millimeter of our lands would be lost.
The authority, with its justification, wants us to believe that due to the different accuracies found in maps with different scales, some adjustments along the border have to be made, thus unavoidably resulting in some villages on both sides being swapped.  If that is really the case, why so far only villages on our side but none on the other side have been identified to the public? It is incomprehensible and unacceptable that the alleged errors and map inaccuracies only occur on our side.  How can a village where the Chairman of the National Assembly and his siblings before him were born, raised and farmed, belong to another country?  Note that on the 6th of August 1966, Hanoi declared: "Thlok Trach village [is] on Cambodian territory".  Why is it no longer the case?

Several other central questions with regard to the entire border demarcation process remain unanswered.  The complete lack of transparency and public consultation since the beginning of the process only confirms the suspicion by some and allegation by others that our lands are being ceded to the neighbor, illegally and deliberately.
It is evident that the Eastern border demarcation constitutes an application of the so-called 1982 and 1985 treaties which were signed when our country was officially recognized by the U.N. as under occupation.  As such, the entire demarcation and the treaties which form its basis are flaw; they are not only in violation of our sovereignty and constitution, but also in contrary to the known international laws.
Apparently, a number of high ranking officials tacitly recognize the loss of lands in the demarcation but are misled and in some cases forced to accept the loss as a necessary compromise in order to establish a permanent boundary and preserve the remaining of the country.   It is a mistake of historical proportions to assume that border conflicts can be resolved through a one-time land concession.  Our past experiences have repeatedly taught us not to naively rely on treaties, physical fences or border posts to safeguard our country from the expansionists.  Those treaties or border posts give us nothing but a false sense of security because the expansionists never have, and never will, the intention to respect our sovereignty.  They always come back for more, taking our lands village by village until nothing left of our country.
It is both heartbreaking and utterly appalling that while the parliament of our neighbour solemnly and unilaterally adopted a law placing the disputed Spratleys and Paracel islands under the sovereignty of its country, our parliament did just the opposite for our villages – stripping off the immunity of its members who dare to courageously stand up for the motherland.
Fellow compatriots, I dare you to break your silence.  Our collective silence and inaction make us all an accomplice of this betrayal.  We can’t pretend there is no problem or walk away from it.  Nor can we consciously contend with the usual inexcusable excuse: “I can’t hold the country alone”.   No one can, and no one is being asked to hold the country alone; but everyone is duty bound to stand up and do the right thing for the motherland, for our children and the children of our children so that they can have a place to call home.  Those who threaten us with the use of force or violence will only bring violence upon themselves.
No one is expected to carry the burden alone.  The burden must and will be shared by all citizens.  Those who stand up and speak out will inspire others.  Beloved compatriots, we are the master of our own destiny; believe in it, embrace it and you won’t be disappointed.  We hold the key to our future.  We can unlock and free ourselves from the shackles of expansionism.  Together, step-by-step we will overcome the obstacles and prevail.  Remember, we are not in this alone.  The outside world, especially “the enemy of our enemy”, is watching and willing to help our cause, but we have to take the first step and prove to them that we’re worth helping.
No stability, social development or economic progress can justify the loss of national sovereignty and territorial integrity.  To believe otherwise is to succumb to treason, a misdeed that my conscience, and I trust yours too, can neither accept nor allow.

Plus under French control in 1800'.
by mixed up + uncleared the MAP.

This can't be blamed on current leaderships.,

Excellent thought by KA! Thank you for your contribution.

All Khmers who consider themselves Khmer or Cambodian should be hurt, shocked and outraged let alone 'surprised' by this ultimate national betrayal, since for one thing we are not living in the 15th, 16th or even in the 19th century but in the 21st where existing due mechanisms for resolving border disputes are being ignored altogether!

And we are urged to absolve the people who commit this act of treason of even 'blame'?

How very 'clever' of you, my dear fellow. Try another ploy!

My beloved compatriots,

Our motherland is where our sacred soul is placed.Millions of our compatriots have scarified their lives to defend her since the battle field were fought by arrows, swords an spears to this day.

Our motherland is not a property that belong to a few people to toss her around like a ball in secrecy with the enemy.

Our motherland is where our heart and history, without it we have no identity or destiny.

Don't wait,it might be too late, as this moment our mother is in pain. She is calling for us and we should rush for her help.It could be her last word, where we will be told of her old true stories that lay back for thousand of years of glory, that you can see in carved- stones that scattered across the wast land from China to Burma.

Nothing is more importance, for this moment is the dark chapter of our history,so be there and care for her.

on that ERA,(old time) khmer defense so weak, so poor, poor on educations, poor on every thing..

This situations, can not be blamed on current Leaders..

Nobody 'blame' the current leaders for territories lost before they were even born!!

But what of territories now being ceded to Vietnam under the current "leaders"' rule? Are they free of 'blame' or responsibility too? Is it because the maps are unclear too, or is it because their minds are clouded?

One of the villages ceded to Vietnam is Heng Samrin's village. Has he [through his ancestors] been living in ignorance of the location of the border line, or has the border line been moved inside Cambodian territory during his lifetime and stewardship? If so why have the same Leaders not made any protest to the UN, or used the map deposited there?

Please don't try to defend the indefensible.

And why is it that Vietnam must always have the benefit of the doubt?

Dear poster above,[4:40 AM]

No you are not wrong in your understanding of the word "swap". It's been used for years now by the CPP regime or its PR people to 'sugar-coat' an otherwise bitter and unjust reality for the Khmer people to swallow.

You and I are fortunate enough to be able to follow developments on independent news sites/forums like this one where one is able to reach conclusions and draw our own opinion based upon a wide range of gathered information and analyses.

In Cambodia, people's access to information is highly restricted, and where issues like border/land encroachment are concerned it is even more so. Not only their access to information is restricted, but their physical movements are highly 'localised', hence restricted also. This means that the majority of Cambodians are not able to verify for themselves or learn the truth about encroachments taking place along the border with Vietnam, and only villagers who actually live by the border areas have first hand knowledge of the situation affecting them. This is why the CPP regime finds it 'necessary' to penalise and punish those villagers and even its own few patriotic Khmer officials for daring to criticise the encroachments.

It's not hard for ordinary Cambodians to give their "government" their full support for standing up to an encroaching, aggressive neighbour. But where they are constantly told by the mass media and their own supposed rulers alike that that neighbour had been their nation's best of friends in time of trouble; that it was through such friendship that their country had been given a second "rebirth" [i.e. 7th January]then they can hardly be blamed for not doing anything about the actual treason being committed behind closed doors where PR slogans such as "swap", "negotiation", "compromise" are all smokescreens and flares used to deflect public scrutiny and attention from the real deeds being done.

Most people in Cambodia will also tell 'you' about Vietnamese army divisions hiding or stationing in Cambodia, or the disparity in military muscle between the two countries. Just as Hun Sen's offer of ammunitions and "free coffins" to anyone who would dare confront Vietnam, this is essentially a propaganda-psychological Chinese whisper spread among the Cambodian public to induce inertia and paralysis before seemingly insurmountable odds stacked against them. If the Vietminh had convinced their own people of America's vastly superior military might and firepower during the previous war and "the human spirit" would be crushed by that power alone no matter what, then their struggle would not have lived to see daylight. So beware of similar rumours and information inserted into the public's consciousness.

All Khmers patriot,

Does any know what happens to all
Yiek Kong/Viet Cong but after the 7th Jannuary,1979 seen only YOUN or YIEK Nam ? That is very ridiculous, Isn't it?

Since youn was being deliberated their directive goal toward to the west by the decease of Ong Ho..,however, his philosophy seemed succeed so far, especially applying in indochina region.
With this kind of planning, nowadays, is so called , neo-colonialism, it was not only youn wants to underestimate khmer, but also China has an ambitious to control and plays as huge game within that region the most.

In the past some 30 years ago, we (all ) known very clearly that youn was successful about their planning to be led Cambodia by the clan of Cpp in which was trained, taught, taken directly order from youn to control the whole nation of khmer.
Upon this point, we have also seen exactly the characteristic , the capability as of a current governments's leaderships who have an incompetency and unprecedented to leading country to confront with all particular problem nation has that including [ some ] of the world's foremost experts on internationally and domestically conflict in active prevention such as, human rights, agricultural, disease control , human trafficking, mental health problem, natural resources, employment, border disputing,budishst-society and promoting democracy (et al.)

Lacking of an experience, knowledgeable and coward, the leadership khmer-Viet Minh has no way to lead a country to satisfy the nation desire and it is rarely seen in the entire world with this kind of leadership with insufficient out-lined and the demand as in Cambodia,of course, they do have it but only served the common interest the whole purpose to his [BOSS.]

e.g. In recent past the death of Mr. Chutt wutthy, Chea Vichea, Om saddrady, etc. I personally felt shocked after getting to know that our great men /women lost their live just because the sake of their country. Wouldn't you feel what I felt?
In addition, the people who lived at Boeun Kok area were cried out for help even so across country, but the gov cannot do anything or be able to provide anything to those people whom families just need a basic necessities . By comparing to the cpp's clan, they take a full of an opportunity to improve their living lives style as well as an illegal logging, land grabbing, Angkor Watt Temple under Tycoon Sok Youn, natural resource and so on. Any way due to the instability of a solid political purposes among Khmer petriot or the golden formularly is never being sought by Khmer citizen, we are not going to have a social safety net at all.

As in Khmer pre-history that Khmer never learn a lesson from the past. Khmer is being loved to have a foreigner as their own boss instead of Khmer working for khmer. After khmer have some of an internal problem or conflict among khmers themselves, that is one way to other, they always run around like chicken no head asking help from the enemy of Khmer when the condition has been met and committed to lose of everything that Khmer has it; they do careless about it as long as they can stay in power and they can defeat their Khmer foe. With all this means enemy is willingness supporting everything that they can afford it to those Khmer group such : Gun, Girl, drug, scholarship, tactic and technical fighting, ammunition, money, position, and a back-up force, etc.
The epidemics of this strategy has so powerful and meaningful in Khmer society today as you can also be seen and heard in current government already. So right now everything is about the[ trust.]
Even if as individual, a group, community in somewhere else that Khmer live, Khmer always have much of an idea of a unity in every time talking about politic of Khmer how to salvage our motherland, but the reality Khmer should be united it,unfortunately, this idea fallen apart with their sort of reasons.
Pls!!! make it happen Khmers all non-communist.

Great thought by Khmer Academy. The term "land swap" was created by Hun Sen and Vietnamese leader to fool people, Khmers and foreigners alike, that it is a village for village swap. But in actual fact, it is a land giveaway to Vietnam. How sad to have traitors like Hun Sen as our leaders.

The regime that is built on injustice, corruption and treason is like a house that built on sand.Loud like a drum.but nothing inside is solid. You only need a few hundred people to star with and you will succeed.

Shouting won't solve the problem.we must have a plan and show our brotherhood of man.

Learn how to hunt,it's fun.
