Ha Tien Vegas
KAMPOT, 23 June 2012 (Cambodia Herald) – A casino on the border between Kampong Trach in Kampot province and Ha Tien in Kien Giang province in Vietnam is cutting 460 jobs, Rasmei Kampuchea reported Saturday.
The report quoted a Ha Tien Vegas employee who lost his job as saying that the reason for the cuts was not clear.
Police, however, said that customers had declined as Vietnam is discouraging citizens from gambling. Other reasons cited were poor road conditions and potential customers heading for the newly-reopened Bokor resort, which is also in Kampot.
Doung Savan, head of the Department of Labor and Vocational Training in Kampot, said the casino advised almost two weeks ago it was cutting its 1,000-member workforce by 460.
He told the newspaper that the department asked the casino to prioritize older staff when business conditions improve.
Ha Tien Vegas is located next to the Prek Chak International border crossing in Thkov village in Russey Srok Khang Lech commune in Kampong Trach district.
