Cambodia’s Rice exports up 13% in 1st 4 months of Y 2012
Cambodia had exported 49,450 tons of milled Rice in the 1st 4 months
of this year, a 13% rise from 43,730 tons in the same period last year,
showed a report from the Ministry of Commerce Wednesday.
The report said from January to April 2012, the country earned
revenues of US$35-M from the Rice exports, + 40% from US$25-M in the
same period a year earlier.
The Rice has been exported mainly to European markets and the United
States, and some to Asian countries including South Korea, China, and
Japan.
Cambodia is an agrarian country with more than 80% of the population being farmers.
The country produced some 8.25-M tons of paddy Rice last year. With
the amount, it’s estimated that there is around 4-M tons of paddy Rice
left over for exports this year.
The Southeast Asian nation sets its goal to export at least 1-M tons of milled Rice by Y 2015.
