Sam Rainsy Party lawmaker asks Hun Sen to halt dam project in Koh Kong

Published: 01-Mar-12

PHNOM PENH (Cambodia Herald) – Opposition Sam Rainsy Party lawmaker Son Chhay has asked Prime Minister Hun Sen to halt construction of the Ta Tai dam on the Ar Reng River in Koh Kong province and to crackdown on illegal logging in the area, sources said Thursday.

In a letter, Son Chhay said people in Tmor Bang district, where the project is located, had expressed concern about the dam after news of the project leaked.

“I believe the government will respond to the requests and questions asked," he said. "All development plans and contracts have to be announced and discussed with local people.”

Son Chhay said logging was still a serious problem in Cambodia since people were able to bypass strict government rules and cut down trees illegally by bribing police.

1:06 PM. You are barking the wrong tree. This guy here is, Son Chhay, he is speaking on behalf of SRP, the only opposition party dares to stand against the CPP.

Get some more education, or re-read the article, what he wants, and wants SRP wants, is for CPP and Hun Sen government to be responsible to crack down all illegal activities surrounding the protected area.

In which part of the article did this Youn SRP members say that made you bite your own tail?

I respect the opinion of other people.

But look at the situation of Power in Cambodia. We need more power and we don't depend on buying from neighboring Countries.

I agree with the buildin of the Hydro-dams in Kampot(Kamchay), in Pursat, in Koh Kong...I also agree with the building of coal-power plant in Sihanoukville and Koh Kong. In Ratanakiri even if you don't build the Sesan Dam, Viet6nam has already built the Dam upstream the Sesan river.

In Germany which is very advanced Country there Hydrodams, fuel-power plants and also COAL- POWER plans.
