Cambodia Sends Diplomatic Note To Thailand Over Troops’ Shootings Toward Cambodian Citizens

AKP Phnom Penh, February 29, 2012 –Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has sent a diplomatic note of complaint to Thailand over the recent deadly shootings of Thai troops toward Cambodian citizens.

The diplomatic note was handed over here on Tuesday to Thai Ambassador to Cambodia, Mr. Sompong Sanguanbun, by Cambodia’s Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Long Visalo (pictured).

The latest shootings happened on Feb. 22 when Thai soldiers opened fire at a group of Cambodian villagers who crossed the border to Thailand in Meng Mot commune, Kabcheung district, Surin province, killing three Cambodian men.

“This is an inhuman act against Cambodian villagers,” H.E. Long Visalo told reporters upon he presented the diplomatic note of complaint to the Thai diplomat.

“The Royal Government of Cambodia considers this intended shooting as a breach of internationally accepted human rights principle, and a violation of the spirit of Point 77 of the Record of Discussion of the sixth meeting of the Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation between Cambodia and Thailand held in Bangkok on August 4-5, 2009,” said the note.

Cambodia requests the Thai authorities to take appropriate measures to prevent such killing from recurrence and to bring to justice those who committed the above inhuman act, it added.

“The Royal Government of Cambodia urges the Thai concerned authorities to avoid shooting, but to arrest the perpetrators and proceed with legal action instead,” it concluded.

Last year, 12 Cambodian citizens were killed by Thai troops along the borders, and by February this year, 7 Cambodian people were also shot down by Thai soldiers.

According to H.E. Long Visalo, both sides are planning to form a commission in order to discuss and find solutions to tackle this issue.

Come on!!! Mr. 1:26 PM, those Thai soldiers learned how to kill especially to the Khmer people, regardless who you are if from Cambodia. I know you won’t go there but if you go, you would be killed definitely and no matter you’re an illegal logger or not. Most of Thai soldiers are Khmer Surin stationed there. We just don’t know how much money they got paid for each dead body.

You must Put the prejudice or racism aside and look clearly at this problem.

I am suspecting the complicity between the poor illegal loggers, the military, the bad businessmen and the local authority.

Having no more forest or rosewood to joyfully cut down or destroy in our Country , those thieves entered Thailand to destroy Thai forest.

There are good and bad Thai, like there are good and bad Khmer. I frankly hate the destroyers of the natural resources. So Let kill Illegal loggers, Khmer or Thais.

If you look at the Khmer statues in Bangkok and elsewhere, who looted them, Khmer or Thai? It's our compatriots, the Khmer!Foreigners just bought them. and you could not blame them. Blame the stupid Khmer!
