Vietnamese top international visitors [to Cambodia] in 2011 followed by Koreas and Chinese

PHNOM PENH (Cambodia Herald) - Vietnamese were the top international visitors to Cambodia in 2011 followed by Koreans and Chinese, whose arrivals have been targeted to reach one million by 2020.

Preliminary figures for international arrivals showed that about 600,000 Vietnamese, about 330,000 South Koreans and about 240,000 Chinese visited the country last year.

In the nine months to September, there were also 120,000 Japanese and 110,000 America arrivals.

Ang Kim Eang, president of the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents, said increasing numbers wanted to visit Cambodia to see the Angkor temples.

“Cambodian beaches, which were recently selected as being among the world's most beautiful, will also attract many tourists,” he said.

Ang Kim Eang noted that the private sector had played a very important role in attracting tourists, and that promotions should be carried out to achieved the goal of one million Chinese arrivals by 2020.
