Phnom Penh Municipality Launches Rice Sale to Curb Soaring Price

AKP Phnom Penh, October 17, 2011 –Phnom Penh Municipality on Sunday began selling milled rice in Phnom Penh with an aim to curb with a soaring price after some merchants exploited the flood disaster to raise rice prices.

According to a statement released by Phnom Penh Municipality, the rice sale campaign co-organized by Phnom Penh Municipality and the Rural Development Bank will put on the rice sale at six locations across Phnom Penh capital city – in front of Botum Vatdey Pagoda in Chaktomuk district, at the Night Market in Psar Chas district, in front of the train station in Sras Chak district, at Chbar Ampov market in Chbar Ampov II district, at Stung Meanchey district administration office, and at Chumpouvoan market in Choam Chao district – from Oct. 16.

The rice sale campaign was set up in order to facilitate the living standard of poor people as well as to curb with the unusual rice price on the markets.
