AKP Phnom Penh, September 9, 2011 –Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Sok An, Minister in Charge of Office Ministers said Cambodia and Thailand should resume oil deal negotiations for joint development at the overlapping area in the Gulf of Thailand.
Speaking at the Phnom Penh International Airport upon his return from the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) in China’s Nanning, H.E. Sok An said Cambodia and Thailand signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding the area since 2001, but the talk was deadlock during the former Thai government under Abhisit Vejjajiva’s administration.
“I think that extracting of the black gold in the overlapping area in the Gulf of Thailand should start for the benefit of the both nations. We don’t have to keep our black gold in our bay, we have to extract for the development”, said H.E. Sok An.
Today Cambodia’s development has relied on the agriculture, tourism, garment, and construction therefore oil and gas would be a new sector for the economic growth, he said.
The Thai’s newly elected Prime Minister Her Excellency Yingluck Shinawatra set to visit Cambodia next week.

cambodia should start thinking about how to invest the revenue from black gold and how they will use the revenue gain from the interest to support social, education healthcare and economic development for Cabodian citizens.
money can be easily spent if you don't know how to make more monies. Let monies make more monies by diversified the investment strategies.

True 11:28 AM, Thais will always be Thais regardless of who rule the country, they will do everything to protect their country's interests first. If Sok An and Hun sen think Yingluck will use their good friendship to make concessions to Cambodia then they are wrong. Also, remember Yingluck is not in control of Thailand. The Thai military and the Thai king are in control of all big decisions. Anything to do with Thai territory and sovereignty, Yingluck can't make decision if the military and the Thai king did not agree. If she makes decision that the military did not agree, then the military will remove her by force.
I hope Mr. Hun Sen don't fall into Thai's trap...New Thai PM may be worst than the old one though...

I believed that PM Hun Sen has his own particular strategy and tactic about facing the Thailand and Vietnam. Therefore, he willing to face and protect his people and country.
Me too, i do believed PM Hun Sen knew whats he doing to protect our country...This guy very determine and serious...I think some people have the wrong idea about him..
Peole think they are so smart and starting looking down at Cambodia leadership, called them all kind of name but they forgot how Cambodia was waste land, killing fields and who free them from the killing fields. Who brough stability for Cambodia while other running out the country and some rich family remain oversea study abroad. Now they are educated, came back home but never thank the people remain home, defend the nation. Cambodian educated from France never give credit to the so called poor and dumb leaders that use their guns to fight to remain Cambodia. You think that you have today to voice your oppinion, visit your families back home without the hardwork of those dump, uneducated Cambodia leadership? Give them some credit. Cambodia needs to have mutual relationship with Thailand and Vietnam. Strategically if China and US continues to compete in Southeast Asia; Cambodia, Thialnd, Loas, Burma and Vietnam will be in the political mix and pin against each others. Why do you think Vietnam strategically side with US? If Cambodia side with China alone then it is easy to be sack by both side and possibly including Loas. It is like playing chess, Cambodia is about to be eaten but China is there to watch over. US is not willing to let goes Cambodia either because it needs to United force from the 3 nations if it wanted to compete with China. Once it is United, then US will have strong footing in Southeast Asia. Thailand has been friend with US and has been loyal partner. Cambodia and Vietnam is questionable. Loas can be easily woe to US side. If Vietnam side with US sincerely, then Cambodia doesn't have much choice but to jump on the band wagan. If Vietnam using US like in the past then Cambodia is stuck in the limbo and most likely Vietnam want use US for political and economic gain.
Cambodia cannot flex it muscle to it neigboring countries to gain true independence unless Cambodia has strong economy and military. In reality, there is no black or white answer. Everything is gray, therefore negotiating with Thailand and exchange prisoner for future good relationship to do economic develop is fine. Don't be afraid to come to play. However, be caution and alway questioning everything before you sign and I am sure PM Hun Sen knows how to handle thing, otherwise the man doesn't have power until today. I trust his judgement.
I trust Cambodia leadership. They know that US and China continue to compete and Cambodia will have to learn how to survive. I am sure they have though everything. They have to remain mutual friend with those nations whether you like it or not. those nations must learn to survive too. why you think vietnam side with US? Thailand is already with the US. If Vietnam is with US, than Loas will be with the US. Cambodia probably with the US too but it cannot abandon China either because it is part of Cambodia culture already. There are many Cambodian Chinese living there thousands of year. It is their country too. It is ok to negotiate with Thailand and foster good relationship. Khmer should never stop playing the political chess. You got to keep making move to survive. Never stay in one move just because you are afraid being eaten for making the wrong move. Be brave, be bold, and be cautious. Just remember, eventhough these leaders are uneducated or dump as opposition called it; they too love Cambodia and they never want anybody to steal their home or rap their children.
