Preah Vihear has witnessed its fair share of bloodshed

Preah Vihear has witnessed its fair share of bloodshed because Preah Vihear have the shameless neighbour that did not abide by a decision the world's the highest court, the International Court of Justice (ICJ), more than 48 years ago. In June 1979, Thai soldiers brutally forced 45,000 Khmer refugees from Pol Pot's "Killing Fields" to descend the heavily mined escarpment back into Cambodia. "Several thousand died, either executed by Thai soldiers to prevent them trying to cross back, or blown up in the minefields," British historian Philip Short wrote in a seminal biography of Pol Pot.

A shameless fraudulent statement was made by Thai Democrat MP Sirichok Sopha "The ICJ ruled only the temple was under Cambodia's sovereignty and Thailand obligated to hand the ruin temple to Cambodia, not soil under and surrounding the ruin": The Nation, 25 June 2008. This has been the Thai shameless theme since July 1962. The shameless Thai Foreign Affairs Statement of 25 March 2008 reinforces this shameless theme.

A Thai Columnist Nophakhun Limsamarnphunnop writes the misleading article "the issue of the surrounding areas, currently in Thailand's territory, would be complicated and the integrity of Preah Vihear complex would be compromised, given that a number of elements of the temple such as a giant reservoir and the Naga staircase are situated in Thai territory.": The Nation 28 June 2008.

It is a hot issue in Thai politics and the dispute has arisen from Thai shameless misleading of the International Court of Justice Judgment of June 1962 on the part of Thai successive governments, politicians and Thai academics for theirs shameless political purposes.

The clarification of ICJ verdict request by Cambodia, which will be heard by the ICJ from 30-31 May, will trigger the animosity of the rogue state of Thailand against Cambodia for years to come.

(thanks L.C)

Thailand will be humiliated by Cambodia

Many Thais still seethe at the humiliation of a 1962 World Court ruling that officially recognized Preah Vihear as Cambodian territory, despite a fund-raising effort in which every Thai citizen donated at least one baht to support Thailand's legal team.

And many Cambodians can't forget how the Thai government helped prolong the wars of the 70s and 80s by supporting the murderers Khmer Rouge against the Cambodia .Going back even further, Thailand's rivalry with Cambodia stretches back hundreds of years, dating back to when Thailand was known as Siam, had its capital in Ayutthaya, and contended with the neighboring Khmer Empire.

During the "dark ages" that followed, Siamese incursions weakened the Cambodian government further. King Naresuna viciously invaded the capital city of Lovek in 1594, and succeeding Thai monarchs competed with Vietnam over control of the beleaguered state.

These conflicts allowed the French to establish control over the severely weakened Cambodian monarchy in 1863. World War II led to more cause for resentment, as Thailand occupied Angkor Wat and many parts of western Cambodia for the duration of the conflict.

International law turn the tide in Cambodia's favor in 1962, when the International Court of Justice ruled that Preah Vihear lay in Cambodian territory and the annex I map is binding .

Should Thailand decide to back its claim up with force, Thailand will find itself at a logistical disadvantage ( Thailand's second hand American-made F16s will go against Russian and Chinese unknown newly invented hardware),If Thailand win Thailand can't have Preah Vihear and the land surrounding if Thailand lost Thailand will lost everything and once again will be humiliated by a little Cambodia , the stages are too high and Thailand won't risk to wage a war with the hardcore ex-Khmer Rouge soldiers

Hey ! anyone know about Ta mann and Ta krabey right now. Thai said they 're in control but Hun sen he said Cambodian are in control but Hun Sen want to bring it to ICJ If all that in cambodia control Why Hun Sen need to bring that case to the ICJ?

Anonymous said...

The reason that Hun Sen wants to take the case to court (ICJ)because Thai Gov. demand Cambodia to withdraw troop from the Ta Moun and Ta Krabey temple.

The Cambodian Army refuse to withdraw that why the fighting started.

Hun Sen wants to settle the case once and for all.

Beside the politic and just look at the facts between Vietnam and Thailand, the different is the Viet Gov. accept Cambodian Map in the UN and Thailand did not.

But if you listen to the opposition party, they will tell you that Cambodia lost land to Vietnam and the Vietnamese is flowing to Cambodia freely.

Please, don't listen to people or the group who say that "If you are not with us, you are against us"
This slogan sound familiar to me when I lived under Pol Pot regime.

Sihanouk Gov. use to accuse people who did not like the king. If you talk against the King, either you are Khmere Serei or Red Khmere.

Lon Nol regime use to accuse the farmers that if you don't support the Gov. you must be a Vietcong simpathiser.

Be careful with this kind of slogan ! It was used in the past.

Now you can hear that if you don't support any opposition party, you must be a Viet supporter.

I do not support any group nor current Gov.

5:17 AM, ICJ involves the issue of Preah Vihear, not Prasat Ta Maon and Prasat Ta Krabey. Prasat Ta Maon and Prasat Ta Krabey were not related to ICJ decision in 1962. According the the Siemese/Franco agreement, the two temples are clearly located inside Cambodia but Thailand, as always, refuses to acknowledge that. I wonder what other temples or disputed land does Thailand still have in mind, the whole Cambodia? Anyway, Thailand knows it will lose an argument on the so-called "disputed land" around Preah Vihear when ICJ reinterpret the case in the coming weeks. When Cambodian troops responded to Thai troops constant provocation at Prasat Ta Maon and Prasat Ta Krabey, it was a diversion set up by Thai military to divert attention from Preah Vihear to other temples. Now, two other temples brought up by Thailand are being in dispute over which side of the land those temples belong to. According to my knowledge, Prasat Ta Maon and Prasat Ta Krabey are still being controlled by Cambodia troops, after all, those temples are located inside Cambodia.

6:15 AM said "Viet Gov. accept Cambodian Map in the UN and Thailand did not". Just think of Koh Tral, the 1985 Cambodia-Vietnam treaty, the 2005 supplemental treaty, the Viet encroachments in Rattanakiri, Kampong Cham, Kampot, Takeo etc, where Khmer villagers and farmers cried everyday for help because of Viet encroachments, then we would know whether Vietnam had accepted the Cambodian map or not.
